Only updates that include the 64 info in the title of the update are being allowed to successfully update. The code was 6BB, then changed to a #d one, but I didn't get that written down. I've tried the download of the Repair.bat as administrator and that didn't work. I've run

Troubleshooters that have come up and they think they've fixed everything, but still only a few updates can download. This has been true since February. I thought they were downloading as I've re-tried updating previously and eventually the update window will say "no new important updates"--but those still had failed...updater just seems to have given up on them.

Help! I bought this hard drive for $800 last year to replace the one with Vista that was always difficult. That plus the tech's hours make this an expensive mistake. Does anyone know how to fix this without reloading Win 7?

    1. How did you install Windows 7 on the new HDD & what installation media did you use to install it?
    2. Is Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), IE9, IE10 or IE 11 installed?
    • Yes, I know you don't use Internet Explorer - but it's part & parcel of your Operating System. If IE's not working properly and/or not fully-patched, Windows isn't either. Note: Support for IE10 & earlier ended on 12 January 2016.
    1. Is it a Dell computer that came with Vista preinstalled or did you use a Dell (OEM) disk to install Win7?
    2. Can you successfully upgrade to Firefox version 47.0.1 (or higher)?

    Maybe you should stop trolling. If Microsoft issued a working version of the update client that doesn't have a prerequisite, we could stop suggesting it.

    Thanks for your response:

    Windows 7 was pre-installed on the new Dell. I was given a disk with it & assume that was used.

    Maybe I'm just not knowledgeable enough about what some of these terms mean.

    Internet Explorer is 11 (11.09600.18376  11.0.33  KB3170106)

    The old Dell with Vista is retired. I was told it was on it's last legs.

    (I have changed the settings to "never allow updates" since someone suggested that.)

    I've gotten 24 messages from the community and trying not to just try everything that I'm hearing to do for this.

    1. I'm still very confused. First you tell us you replaced the Vista computer's hard-drive (HDD) last year - now you're telling us that Win7 came preinstalled on the computer. Do I have the wrong end of the stick or what?
    2. Is KB3170455, KB3168965, and/or KB3163245 listed in Installed Updates(not Update History)? [1]
    3. When (exact date) was KB3170106 installed according to Installed Updates(not Update History)?
    4. When (exact date) was Internet Explorer 11 installed according to Installed Updates?
    5. Is Adobe Flash Player v22.0.0.209 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    6. How long has Windows Update (i.e., automatic updating) been disabled?
    7. Have you ever run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool and/or the Norton Removal Tool?
