Only updates that include the 64 info in the title of the update are being allowed to successfully update. The code was 6BB, then changed to a #d one, but I didn't get that written down. I've tried the download of the Repair.bat as administrator and that didn't work. I've run

Troubleshooters that have come up and they think they've fixed everything, but still only a few updates can download. This has been true since February. I thought they were downloading as I've re-tried updating previously and eventually the update window will say "no new important updates"--but those still had failed...updater just seems to have given up on them.

Help! I bought this hard drive for $800 last year to replace the one with Vista that was always difficult. That plus the tech's hours make this an expensive mistake. Does anyone know how to fix this without reloading Win 7?

    I have never experienced a problem with Windows Update so my experience troubleshooting WU is (very) limited.  I make an effort to to on;y suggest things to do and not suggest things to try.

    For the "Read this first" message I just pulled together ideas from some volunteers that did have experience into what I thought would a consistent easy to follow message.  I think there are bits and pieces from each of the few that have demonstrated they can get WU to behave.

    ...and when I read in any topic the reply that begins with the list of questions like "When did you purchase the computer..."  that signals the end for me and I generally bail out because sooner or later (days/weeks) and after scores of other questions, the result of that intervention is usually reinstall.

    If the other discussion was preformed then both updates KB3020369 & KB3172605 have successfully installed.

    Then I would also reset the update system and services afterwards

    I personally prefer this one it's much better just a little more user interaction,

    Use Option 2 on the list after right clicking it and select run as administrator

    Download it to your downloads folder

    Right click it and select Extract all to the downloads folder.

    Then right click ResetWUEng and select run as administrator

    Follow the rest of the prompts

    Press any key to continue

    Type 2 for that Option on the list and the Enter key to reset update services..

    Press y for Yes and then the Enter key I believe twice

    After it has completed

    Type 15 for that option and the Enter key to restart the machine.

    Should say will restart in 60 seconds save your work.... press any key to continue.

    After restart go to windows updates and manually check for updates shouldn't take a few minutes.
