Hey all,

we have started rolling out a new firmware update for Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL: 01078.00038.16025.390xx. Key improvements in this release include:

  • Stability fixes.
  • Improvements for GPS reliability.

The availability of this update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. At the time of writing this post, the update is available mainly for selected open market variants, but the rollouts should continue gradually during the coming days and weeks.

If you are a Windows Insider user, see. Note: this does not affect general firmware availability.

Firmware update availability is dependent on country/operator approvals, so the update publishing mode is slightly different from Windows 10 OS updates. The update will be available, when approved for your device.

I am an unlocked 950 dual sim owner in the United States. Where do we fit into the FW update rollout or can you tell sir?

The GSM (2G/3G) connectivity is horrible, and my Lumia 950 XL is nearly unusable when my data connection is throtteled. Has this been improved with the firmware update? LTE is fine, only the previous mentioned standards are unusable compared to other phones I own. State: Germany (Unlocked/Unbranded Lumia 950 XL) Provider: o2

    Same here.

Germany, Vodafone with Lumia 950 XL.

LTE is running fine, but when the data connection switches automatically between 3G and H/H+ the phone is nearly unusable.

No update here in US yet on 950XL.

Since the update last week, the Wi-Fi connects moving between home and work. But now, the Wi-Fi connects but does not receive internet access.  One must reboot the phone and connect to the same network again.  Why are reboots necessary to switch Wi-Fi networks?  This is a new issue?  Firmware 01078.00017.15454.29005 and OS Build 10.0.10586.71 pushed last week.

Also, is there any provision to make Lumia 950XL work on AT&T networks at real world LTE speeds.  Too many times the phone is connecting at less than 2mb speeds and many times at less than 1mb downloads. This means all white and black web pages without content. No bandwidth.  My side by side comparisons with an iPhone 6 test results on how great the disparity in connectively really is.

Now Microsoft will be providing their own cellular data program with certain devices that have dual sims.  Sounds like the 950XL is a candidate.  That means more money each month just to get fast LTE download speeds.  Please say this is not so.
