Hey all,

we have started rolling out a new firmware update for Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL: 01078.00038.16025.390xx. Key improvements in this release include:

  • Stability fixes.
  • Improvements for GPS reliability.
  • Improvements for call audio quality.

The availability of this update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. At the time of writing this post, the update is available mainly for selected open market variants, but the rollouts should continue gradually during the coming days and weeks.

Windows 10 is updating continuously, so make sure you follow all the update notifications that appear on your phone. To check for updates, you can also tap Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates. For detailed update instructions, see.

If you are a Windows Insider user, see. Note: this does not affect general firmware availability.

To read more about the new features included in Windows 10 Mobile, see What's New in Windows 10 Mobile.

Exactly as LCRT stated above - unfortunately there is no way to "speed up" the firmware update availability by "unlocking the phone" or changing the SIM-card.

I'm tired of this carrier dependent approval process BS. It's rubbish. If I can buy an unlocked 950/XL, throw my AT&T sim in it and use it fine without AT&T throwing down some sort of ban hammer, then why can't MS just release it for AT&T 950s? Make it available to Insiders or a separate application that at least takes some effort to apply instead of just OTA. With only 1% and declining market share, what does MS have to lose?

It's way beyond time for the carriers to simply become dumb pipes.

Simple AT&T Owns the device. Once you own the device you can unlock it and be free of the hassle of waiting on their approval.

No. unlocking the device to other networks does not change the fact that the FIRMWARE is branded by AT&T, and it is an AT&T product. unlocking achieves nothing.

I don´t understand the roll out strategy.

Why I still don´t get the fw update for my 950 XL two days after the first devices got it here in Germany?
