Top Request: Navigate music collections by folder in the Groove app

Week after week we hear the request to add the ability to navigate music collections by folder in the Groove app. We're thinking about how to build it the right way and would love more detailed feedback.

How do you organize your collection by folder? A folder per album? A folder per artist? A folder by season?

Once we expose your folder structure in Groove, how do you expect to interact with them? Play buttons on each folder? Should your folders be included in the "Add to" menus?

    In my music folder, I have a folder for each individual artist and under each artist, I have a folder for every album and one folder called Non-Album for all the songs that are only singles with no album. I wouldn't include the folders in the 'Add to' menu, because it wouldn't be clear whether the songs will be copied or moved and I don't know anybody who would want to copy songs in between folders. I'm thinking more like having a 'Save as playlist' option for a folder and maybe 'Archive' or 'Save as .rar' option for playlist. If you have your songs on OneDrive, clicking on 'Share' would generate a OneDrive link. Further in, I would love to see features like 'Edit tags' and 'Edit tags for folder' to edit individual song's ID3v2 tags or tags for all the songs in a folder.

    It can be a bit complicated with me.

    * If I have a lot songs from one type of genre, then all music in one folder named after that genre.

    * If I have complete albums, then all songs in album in one folder named after that album, that folder is then nested in        one folder named after that artist.

    * If I have a lot of music (not complete albums) from one artist, then all music in one folder named after that artist.i.e.:

    i.e.

    Music/Rock

                 |

                  --various songs from various rock artists

              /Beatles

                 |

                  --Hard Day's Night

                     |

                      --all songs from album

              /Elvis Presley

                 |

                   --various songs from Elvis Presley

    I would like to see the folders be virtual in nature. This "folder" system could be controlled by tags and the user could tag a song as many times as desired. This would allow music to appear in multiple folders. Automatic tags would be artist, genre, album name, and additional tags if desired like season. This way you could keep "Christmas Music" from being added to your "My Groove" or shuffle in mix the months Jan-Nov. My biggest and inly pet peeve in Groove. There should be a play and shuffle add to within each folder.

    Well, my music has to be in one folder somewhere, then IN THE APP (GROOVE) I would love to make playlist based on genre, singer, albums, etc.... all of them shortcuts (of course) to my single music folder/server/whatever. Then again in the app, every collection/playlist should have the play button, so I don't need to enter playlist (I made it, so I know what music I put in that), just click play button on that folder and music starts.

    In addition, every song that is playing for the moment should be able to right-click and add to collection/playlist of my choosing.

    I groom my collection meticulously, so the folders structure does not matter to the player.
