Top Request: Navigate music collections by folder in the Groove app

Week after week we hear the request to add the ability to navigate music collections by folder in the Groove app. We're thinking about how to build it the right way and would love more detailed feedback.

How do you organize your collection by folder? A folder per album? A folder per artist? A folder by season?

Once we expose your folder structure in Groove, how do you expect to interact with them? Play buttons on each folder? Should your folders be included in the "Add to" menus?

    What is a "folder"?  I do not see that word anywhere on the Groove Music interface on my PC.  How do you create a folder?   I do not have music (or anything else) "in the cloud."  I have a prepaid phone and do not access the internet or anything else non-phone when I am away from my home wi-fi.  I generally look for albums on a music player and then build playlists from them, such as 'dinner music,' 'favorite dance numbers,' 'dance practice 2,' 'language lesson16,' etc.  I purchased a Windows 10 smart phone because I broke my camera and want to get away from my 2019 iPod Touch2, since Apple products never made sense to me. (MS seems to be drifting there.)

    The playlists that I built in iTunes showed up in Groove Music on my PC, but have not moved to the phone.  (I link them with a cable.)

    Perhaps there is a better app for me to use to listen to my playlists.

    MusicFolder or NewMusicFolder>Artist>Album>TrackNumber - Title

    But really, since Zune(now Groove) and the music Pass, I don't really care, Groove handle it very well.

    In my music folder, I have a folder for each individual artist and under each artist, I have a folder for every album and one folder called Non-Album for all the songs that are only singles with no album. I wouldn't include the folders in the 'Add to' menu, because it wouldn't be clear whether the songs will be copied or moved and I don't know anybody who would want to copy songs in between folders. I'm thinking more like having a 'Save as playlist' option for a folder and maybe 'Archive' or 'Save as .rar' option for playlist. If you have your songs on OneDrive, clicking on 'Share' would generate a OneDrive link. Further in, I would love to see features like 'Edit tags' and 'Edit tags for folder' to edit individual song's ID3v2 tags or tags for all the songs in a folder.

    First of all, Ellen, you are really shining amongst those who are leading a Team which develops applications for W10(M) within Microsoft.

    Groove has come an amazing way since the first iterations, if I would be your Boss I would feel extremely proud of you.

    Regarding folders, some thoughts:

    • I organize this way:

    One Folder per Artist, and then a Folder per album. The Software MP3 Tag helps to organize it this way.

    With samplers, I still try to put the single songs into folders which are named according to the original album, and this folder again into the Artist's folder.

    It doesn't work always like this, and I have an Artist folder wich is named "Various Artists"....

    • I'd like to play an Album without having to make a playlist. A Play-Button on the folder would be great.
    • I'd like to play from folders on Hard Drives and all other fancy storage mediums, AND also from optical discs (i.e. our good old CD....), I know it's OT, but hey...I'm an old fashioned guy, who still has CD's. Ripping CD's would be the next highly appreciated step

    Can we expand this to include the ability to modify artist, genre, year info etc. attributes instead of just navigating to an album/artist to play the music? This will improve the quality of the new auto playlists quite a bit since it will be reading more accurate info - I would think it would anyway...
