Windows Update just spins and spins, seemingly without end

A week ago, Windows Update seemed to stop working on my laptop. It never seems to finish looking for updates for my Window Vista, but just spins and spins and spins. Before this, it always took 6 minutes or less to check for updates and let me know if there were any. If it was downloading an update, it would let me know its size and how long it would take. Anyone know what's going on?

I didn't say there was anything "wrong" with Norton Antivirus Online. [1]

You don't know if replacing it would have resolved your problems because you didn't do so.

[1] The fact that you obtained the application from an ISP in the USA (i.e., CenturyLink) and the fact that you're no longer a CenturyLink subscriber - since you now reside in Thailand - may be a violation of the EULA (license) you accepted when you installed it:

Don't you get it? There's nothing wrong with Norton Antivirus Online, and replacing it would not have solved the problem of not being able to download Windows updates.

Fine by me. Won't really matter 8 months from now anyway.

PS: I recommended that you replace the questionable Norton application.

Since GWN gave me the right answer and you told me to uninstall Norton Antivirus Online, I'm going with GWN's advice.

This is the most irresponsible suggestion I have received in more than 5 years of using Windows Answers. Do you realize how much trouble this could have caused me if I'd taken your advice?
