How do you "automatically" update your Windows Media Player album information if this doesn't work the first time?

Hi,

How do you "automatically" update your Windows Media Player album information, if this doesn't work the first time in respect of the data for the album, which WMP finds?

I'm not finding the accuracy of the Player good at all; if there's a double album it seems to get these the wrong way around in respect of the details. And Sometimes it gets albums entirely wrong, when I had no difficult finding this on the internet?

Before you respond I know 'Edit' and "Search" etc, but the editing process would take too long for each single. And Search is not working... I've typed the exact details in for the album, only for WMP to turn up 500+ results, which are not relevant?

Also how do you prevent your playlists being lost, if your computer crashes? How do you Save etc or is there a quicker easier way to do this? Is there a way for instance of saving these online?

(Microsoft please have another look at this forum? For instance it is far too difficult to find, and when I've been writing, on pressing Return I lose the post? Also the font selection function italics etc did not work for me???)

PS Italics worked belatedly towards the end, when I highlighted the text I'd written.

Sorry for the delay - finally found time to read back through the thread - I don't think at this point I can offer any more suggestions. The sledgehammer option proposed by MS support may be about the only one left, and if you're (fairly) happy with how most stuff is working... that seems a bit drastic!

It seems MS techs are no longer bothered much about WMP - so many people having issues with it particularly in W10 (Burn/Rip problems; Incorrectly sized artwork; DRM - which MS promised to try to fix last August... etc.) Yet it's still a fundamental part of the OS.

    I should mention please...

The Classical Album is a 'double' CD.

And when I say the icon has disappeared, I mean it just has gone blank with no WMP logo, so more diffiuclt to find?

These are worth trying - if not already done...

Control Panel - Programs - Programs and Features - Turn Windows features On and Off... wait for the list to populate and you'll find WMP under 'Media' - Turn it off... restart the pc and then go back and turn it on again... if things are unchanged - then run

System File Checker (SFC) from directions here...

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files

It may report and fix violations... if violations are found but not fixed run it again.

Thanks for your patience here Ric...

In re ripping... I just tried to rip a classical album, but it must need cleaning etc as the sound was not good, so thought I'd give it another go so ticked the boxes to rip this again. However do I need to delete the prior copy I made now, or will this rip over/save over the prior faulty/scratched rip I made?In re W10 roll back... it wasn't just because of WMP I wished to do this, but as I preferred W7 & the other faults I am xp such as with the icon, and the HD audio manager, which keeps on telling me there's a plug loose, which there isn't. I've uninstalled and reinstalled this, but a lot of people have had this problem with W10.

*Took me a long time to find this thread again. I did post this in respect of finding this old thread, asking what is the distinction between accessing your threads here or on the below link? As I stated wasn't even sure what site I should visit.

For instance if I enter MS this way, then the page appears somewhat different, and the name, which then seems to have no relevance to the instructions Microsoft gave?

****https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb  <<< So is the more general site Ric, which has no bearing to posts & threads?

PS: Don't feel in a rush to get back I just wished to get the questions out of the way, while I was on the thread.

Just on that first point - cleaning should not make any significant difference to the sound quality. Is it seriously distorted? If so the disc may be copy-protected... a significant number of discs were released in the last ten to fifteen years that were virtually unusable on PCs mainly by Warner Bros and subsids... I'll get back to you later on the rest...

    Cheers, R.

(oh and yes - probably best to delete the previous rip, but just try playing the disc first - see how it is sounding...)
