How do you "automatically" update your Windows Media Player album information if this doesn't work the first time?

Hi,

How do you "automatically" update your Windows Media Player album information, if this doesn't work the first time in respect of the data for the album, which WMP finds?

I'm not finding the accuracy of the Player good at all; if there's a double album it seems to get these the wrong way around in respect of the details. And Sometimes it gets albums entirely wrong, when I had no difficult finding this on the internet?

Before you respond I know 'Edit' and "Search" etc, but the editing process would take too long for each single. And Search is not working... I've typed the exact details in for the album, only for WMP to turn up 500+ results, which are not relevant?

Also how do you prevent your playlists being lost, if your computer crashes? How do you Save etc or is there a quicker easier way to do this? Is there a way for instance of saving these online?

(Microsoft please have another look at this forum? For instance it is far too difficult to find, and when I've been writing, on pressing Return I lose the post? Also the font selection function italics etc did not work for me???)

PS Italics worked belatedly towards the end, when I highlighted the text I'd written.

Sorry for the delay - finally found time to read back through the thread - I don't think at this point I can offer any more suggestions. The sledgehammer option proposed by MS support may be about the only one left, and if you're (fairly) happy with how most stuff is working... that seems a bit drastic!

It seems MS techs are no longer bothered much about WMP - so many people having issues with it particularly in W10 (Burn/Rip problems; Incorrectly sized artwork; DRM - which MS promised to try to fix last August... etc.) Yet it's still a fundamental part of the OS.

Hi - part of the problem here is that  the thread has gone off in a number of different directions from where it started. I'm dealing with a fair number of enquiries - plus other non computer related stuff - and can't always find time to read back through pages of posts to see what has been discussed. That's why it's better to start a new thread for any enquiry even if it seems fairly closely related to the original Q... it avoids going off at a tangent.

Email addresses are automatically edited out by the system in the interests of everybody and yes, I do prefer to stick with that arrangement

The only articles I have been able to find about playlist transfer relate to earlier versions of WMP... I seem to remember not having too much difficulty resetting my (handful of) playlists when I switched to my present computer 18 months ago. (Full music folder including playlist folder was backed up on an external drive). It might be best to ask a new Q in the Music Photos Video section (which has wider readership) because I don't work with playlists that much myself.

If you have difficulty finding threads just save a 'favourites' or 'bookmark' link to your community profile page. Any threads you have been involved in will be there under 'activity'. It's quite likely this thread will be locked now because five pages on it has drifted a fair way from its original purpose. - Cheers, Ric.

    Hi Ric,

***I think I understand where MS are coming from in re this fix, and it might work without being too drastic, I hope.       Not found the solution of passing playlists over from one computer to the other yet?        Did you respond to this question please, fully...? I understand you said that you can do this, but then you are to re-associate the list to the new computer's WMP! How do you do this please?         I have real issues getting onto MS every time, then following the thread is another deed in itself the way Microsoft have laid this out!       Would be better if we communicated directly... I know you said you're not so keen but this is one of the reasons for my late response?***Can you include email addresses on here, or you could contact me through my website... one click to access email via this?

Either way, thanks and a response is better than no response at all!

Bear with me because I'm a bit busy elsewhere at the moment. I'll need to re-read the thread because I've lost track of what has been done so far. VLC is quite versatile but it is primarily a video player. There are some shortcomings in its abilities as a music player (in my opinion) audio quality-wise. Anyway, I'll get back as soon as possible... Ric.

I've done this, not fixed the main icon, but the other icons had recovered in any case... so anything else to get the main icon back?

Tis fine I'm working with MS but they wish to do a system refresh if necessary.
