Lumia 950 shuts down randomly and has trouble starting again

Several days ago my Lumia 950 started randomly shutting down. It happens all of the time and when it does it is not easy to get it to start again. Rarely I am able to just hold the power button and have it turn on, usually what happens is the power button either does nothing or the phone acts like it is starting but after the "Microsoft" screen it just shuts off again. When either of those things happen the only way to get it to actually start up is to either start charging the phone or take out the battery and then put it back in. Half of the time when I am able to get it started again it says there are problems on the SD card and needs to scan it to fix errors, meaning everything that I have saved on the SD card is unusable. I have never received a message that says the scan has completed. Usually the phone shuts off on it's own shortly after and the SD card is fine when it gets started again. One time the phone was on for an hour or so and in the storage settings it looked like the SD card was still being scanned, but once restarted the SD card was fine. Unfortunately, I don't have anything else that uses microSD cards at the moment so I can't check it with another computer to see if there really is a problem.

I'm 99% sure that the solution to this problem is going to be the same as every other time that the phone screws up which is to reset everything. I'm a big fan of Microsoft and Windows phones, but I'm getting really tired of having all of these problems on a supposedly release ready phone and software and having to reset all of the time. I'm posting here on the off chance that there might be an easier solution to the problem.

By the way, I did get a notification a day or two ago after one of the shut downs that said new updates were installed, but that didn't help the random shut offs.

Replaced battery completely fixed my issue.

I had already reset the OS without any difference.

Exactly the same - after the latest updates on the fast ring, my phone started shutting down randomly (only on battery, never on powercord) so I deducted it ought to be a battery problem. Ordered a new one, but for the sake of trying, I also reset the phone to factory settings. No change... :-(. Haven't tried the paper card trick though.

I tried all tricks and repairs discussed here, incl. use of MS recovery tool and test application, hard resets etc. exept changed new battery. Nothing helped, and in the end it was really hard to turn on the phone. Coulgn'd hard reset anymore either, phone just turned off or made soft reset no matter what, and didn't responce/connect to MS tools on PC correctly. Then, it just shut down totally, and now I¨m Android user.

Like Windows phone, but to be honest; none of the four or five 400...600 € Nokia/MS phones didn't work one full month without some serious problem.

Guys i just wanted to share my experience with you.

I have both Lumia 950XL & 950 also 640XL, 640XL have no issues with that, but had one issue with charging replaced the connector and changed some things on the motherboard...thats what i have been told but i think the connector was the issue...it is special designed it is MICRO USB but not like the other phones ordered it from EBAY.

My bro uses the 950 and i use the 950XL, at first his phone started to act weird like reboot and turn off randomly, now mine have too...he ordered a brand new battery and now he use it for about 2-3 days moderate user. So i think mine will be the same thing...just get new battery...Yesterday had to charge it 3times and i didnt use it a lot....an hour ago it had around 60% battery and i got it of my pocket and it was black screen couldnt turn it on...i get back home put it on the charger and it started to charge...im using only the original fast charger....at first when i bought it i could easily get 2 days because of the large capacity of the battery, now i just told my bro to get me another one....

And one more thing for all you that leaves your phone to recharge over the night...DO NOT DO THAT...even though it is Lithium battery...i think that is the problem...it takes around 1 hour to fully be charged and you leave it to charge for 6-7 hours more than it should....i started to recharge it when i woke up and wait for it to get 100% and dont use it while charging...that is my experience. Hope it will help someone

I had the same issue with my Nokia 950 rebooting, over and over and just shutting down randomly. I can never take a photo without it shutting down.

Tried the paper to keep the battery secure and that didn't work. Bought battery on ebay and that has seemed to fix the issue. Wish I would of known about this months earlier.

Buy new battery!
