Lumia 950 shuts down randomly and has trouble starting again

Several days ago my Lumia 950 started randomly shutting down. It happens all of the time and when it does it is not easy to get it to start again. Rarely I am able to just hold the power button and have it turn on, usually what happens is the power button either does nothing or the phone acts like it is starting but after the "Microsoft" screen it just shuts off again. When either of those things happen the only way to get it to actually start up is to either start charging the phone or take out the battery and then put it back in. Half of the time when I am able to get it started again it says there are problems on the SD card and needs to scan it to fix errors, meaning everything that I have saved on the SD card is unusable. I have never received a message that says the scan has completed. Usually the phone shuts off on it's own shortly after and the SD card is fine when it gets started again. One time the phone was on for an hour or so and in the storage settings it looked like the SD card was still being scanned, but once restarted the SD card was fine. Unfortunately, I don't have anything else that uses microSD cards at the moment so I can't check it with another computer to see if there really is a problem. 

I'm 99% sure that the solution to this problem is going to be the same as every other time that the phone screws up which is to reset everything. I'm a big fan of Microsoft and Windows phones, but I'm getting really tired of having all of these problems on a supposedly release ready phone and software and having to reset all of the time. I'm posting here on the off chance that there might be an easier solution to the problem. 

By the way, I did get a notification a day or two ago after one of the shut downs that said new updates were installed, but that didn't help the random shut offs.

    Guys i just wanted to share my experience with you.

    I have both Lumia 950XL & 950 also 640XL, 640XL have no issues with that, but had one issue with charging replaced the connector and changed some things on the motherboard...thats what i have been told but i think the connector was the issue...it is special designed it is MICRO USB but not like the other phones ordered it from EBAY.

    My bro uses the 950 and i use the 950XL, at first his phone started to act weird like reboot and turn off randomly, now mine have too...he ordered a brand new battery and now he use it for about 2-3 days moderate user. So i think mine will be the same thing...just get new battery...Yesterday had to charge it 3times and i didnt use it a lot....an hour ago it had around 60% battery and i got it of my pocket and it was black screen couldnt turn it on...i get back home put it on the charger and it started to charge...im using only the original fast charger....at first when i bought it i could easily get 2 days because of the large capacity of the battery, now i just told my bro to get me another one....

    And one more thing for all you that leaves your phone to recharge over the night...DO NOT DO THAT...even though it is Lithium battery...i think that is the problem...it takes around 1 hour to fully be charged and you leave it to charge for 6-7 hours more than it should....i started to recharge it when i woke up and wait for it to get 100% and dont use it while charging...that is my experience. Hope it will help someone

    i have this same issue.  the issue started over the last 2 weeks.

    the build date is 7/16/2017.  i have to agree with the other poster, this seems very strange that a perfectly working device randomly shuts down so soon after an update.

    mine will turn off while on the charging pad, without being touched.  i don't think its any issue with the battery coming unlodged.  i get a vibrate when it shuts down also.

    icracked my screen a few months ago w my 950 that had no issues and I loved it so went to windows store in freehold nj very helpful had to buy a new phone so bought a new 950 not sure if totally new or refurbished didn't ask .right from the start started shutting off on me so checked on line did everything everyone list still did it went in and they gave me another phone after checking it out again very helpful again started shutting down so went in again and got another 950 now this one is shutting down . very upset its a 45 minute drive every time to go there I need to go back again probably for another bad phone . and there are no other choices for windows phones now so Microsoft please tell a loyal customer what am I to do can I get my money back from when I purchased originally 3 months ago or do I have to keep exchanging phones or are you gonna have a new product soon or do I give up on windows phone and try another os I have always had windows phones so would be a hard change for me please help

    I gave it a shot, put some post it notes between the battery and case a couple of days ago but unfortunately my problems persist. The only thing that has changed was the most recent update that was applied, so I'm beginning to think that the update is the culprit.

    I felt the same way and was apprehensive. About the solution. However once I secured the battery in its place i have not had the problem since.
