Windows 8.1 won't update

My laptop won't update the normal updates. I have tried running the windows update troubleshooter, it says it fixed a couple of things but it still won't update any updates. We've also tried upgrading to windows 10, but that doesn't work either. I've had to turn off the automatic updates, otherwise it says it updating, then says failure to update, undoing changes and takes absolutely ages to boot up. Any ideas anyone?

2016-04-28T16:43:00+00:00 Yes, can't remember what it said, I think it fixed a couple of things, but I then did the scannow and DISM thing anyway, but I've just run the fixit thing again and it said "service registration is missing or corrupt" not fixed. It didn't say that the first time!

When I ran the scannow thing it said there were corrupt files and was unable to fix them, I think it was Amd64/CNBJ2530.DPB, so I did the DISM thing and it said everything was fine or fixed (can't remember the exact wording). I then tried to install the updates but it still didn't work. I ran the scannow thing again, and it didn't come up with any problems. What else can I do? (Also tried upgrading to Windows 10 but that didn't work either).
