Windows 8.1 won't update

My laptop won't update the normal updates. I have tried running the windows update troubleshooter, it says it fixed a couple of things but it still won't update any updates. We've also tried upgrading to windows 10, but that doesn't work either. I've had to turn off the automatic updates, otherwise it says it updating, then says failure to update, undoing changes and takes absolutely ages to boot up. Any ideas anyone?

Tried updating KB3148198 with IE but it still says its not applicable for this computer. Here is another WUSA log:

OK, can you try and install the update manually using IE and see what happens.

Could you also post another Event Viewer log file for a different update which failed to install.

This is really strange. The file which tried to install and failed is this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51917

What you should have got was this one:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51833

They both have the same KB3148198 number but the first one is for the 32-bit version of Windows 7 while the second one is for 8.1 and 64-bit.

Just to clarify, you do have a 64-bit version of Windows 8.1 don't you? If you're not sure, right click the Start button and click System. It will tell you in the section called System which it is.
