Lumia 650 loses Wi-Fi connectivity until reboot

With my new Lumia 650 running Windows 10, I have a serious problem with Wi-Fi, occurring daily.

At some point the device becomes unable to connect to any Wi-Fi access point, whether previously known or discovered with Wi-Fi Sense. I have observed this both with WPA access points at home and at work, and also with unencrypted public hotspots in the city.

In the Wi-Fi settings screen, I can see it repeatedly attempts to connect to one of the access points available for automatic connection, but then reverts to disconnected state.

Turning Wi-Fi off and on again does not solve the problem. Only after turning the device off and on again it becomes able to connect.

Did anyone else encounter this problem?

Hi!

Last Sunday I got the info that the firmware update is spread over the air here in Germany. I assume that this also applies to other countries - just try it by checking for updates in the Settings area. The firmware update shows with a text like "MICROSOFTDMG". If the new firmware is not shown, it probably is a matter of days until Microsoft releases it in your area.

The other option is to check for updates with the Microsoft Device Rescue Tool on your PC. Installing updates this way means to reset your phone. But: What you can do before updating this way is to backup your phone - it should be no problem to restore (almost) everything afterwards.

You can see your firmware version by opening Settings - System - Info. Here you find a button like "More info" or so if the version is not shown. The old firmware is version 16082.41014, the new one is 16352.50011.

Ok - having similar problems with my Lumia650(s) - will install the latest update - @HeikoHHBis it still a requirement to do the whole device reset/manual install thing; or is it just a matter of going to "check for Updates"?

Also - how do you check to see what firmware/OS version that the device is on??

Hi!

I installed the firmware update 3 days ago (69 hours now, to be precise), and the WiFi connection was always there - no dropping or other problems. It also reconnected smoothly when I returned to my home / office WiFi network. I also use a FritzBox.

Seems that the update actually addressed the problem. Which once again confirms the saying: It is never wrong to do the right thing!

Microsoft publishes firmware updates via WDRT first (device is resetted and you have to manually install it with this tool).

After a few days/weeks they publish it over the air like a Windows 10 monthly update. No need to reset the device- simple install the update.

My Lumia 650 got the Firmware update last night over the air. Just installed it. Process is the same like installing a Windows 10 Mobile update -> Install -> Reboot.

I connected it to my FritzBox. Hope it'll keep the WiFi connected / will reconnect without the need to reboot the Lumia.
