New firmware update for Lumia 950/950 XL: 01078.00053.16236.35xxx

It is beyond my understanding, why Nokia and now Microsoft, insist on making 100 regional variants of the same hardware, when they could just use simple if/then/else logic in the code using things like GPS location and the identity of the carrier from the SIM card to set the default language and other settings. It would be a whole lot simpler for everyone if there was exactly one firmware for a given hardware device. (hint, this is exactly what Apple has been doing since the first iPhone)

I wrote that guide and verified it with my own device, but of course the risk is yours if you decide to try.

I actually tried your advice yesterday actually, but my version showed the same as what was online in that site, so it didn't work for me to proceed. I did try though. Lol

The availability of the update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. Starting today, the update should become available for the first batch of phones and the remaining ones are expected to receive the update gradually. 

OK this sucks for me as I have T-Mobile as a service provider, they do not support the 950/950XL right now so I wont get this firmware update. Will there be any other way to get this?

T-Mobile or any other carrier have nothing to do with it. Yours will get the update same time as everyone else in the US.

I'm simply amazed that the US won't be getting this for a while yet.  I stopped using my Lumia 950 XL months ago and went to my Lumia 640 running the exact same Windows 10 build and it runs faster, less buggy, and has an honest to goodness, real working WiFi.  According to my corporate Microsoft rep, I was told not to expect this firmware update for quite a while due to carrier intervention.  Isn't this why we buy unlocked/unbranded phones in the first place, to not be handcuffed by the very companies partly responsible for the downfall of Windows Phone (hey AT&T, I'm looking directly at you)?

Up until the Lumia 950 XL I was a huge fanboy and have been using Windows Mobile since 2002, starting with Windows CE.  I've purchased more than two dozen Windows Mobile phones since the original HTC Canary.  My experience with the Lumia 950 XL alone has changed all that loyalty and excitement and I'll be moving to Android once the Note 7 comes out.  Considering Microsoft is focusing the app development team's efforts on iOS and Android exclusively, it seems that's the way they want us to go.

The Lumia 640 has an honest to goodness real working 2.4GHz Wi-Fi to be exact, which my Lumia 950 XL has. I don't think I've noticed many problems when I'm on 2.4GHz. It is only 5GHz that I see problems with the Lumia 950 XL.

As far as "buggy" is concerned, no.  i don't see the Lumia 640 as less buggy when it is on the same build as the Lumia 950 XL. I keep a Lumia 640 on the production build so that I have a fall-back device should I have problem with he 950 XL which has always been on Fast Ring and has always been my daily driver.
