Hey folks,

We are starting to rollout a new firmware update today for Lumia 950/950 XL: 01078.00053.16236.35xxx. Key improvements in this release include:

  • Wi-Fi connectivity improvements, including fixes for Wi-Fi connection dropping randomly and Wi-Fi scan occasionally not returning any results.
  • Support for double tap to wake enabled.
  • Bluetooth connectivity improvements.
  • Stability and reliability improvements.
  • Camera improvements, including improved image and video quality, improved Auto-focus and fix for a problem that was causing slow motion capture to skip frames for some users.
  • Cellular connectivity improvements, including fix for a problem that caused occasional network loss for some users.
  • Audio quality improvements, including fix for a problem that caused voice call audio to get scrambled for some users.

The availability of the update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. Starting today, the update should become available for the first batch of phones and the remaining ones are expected to receive the update gradually.

Windows 10 is updating continuously, so make sure you follow all the update notifications that appear on your phone. To check for updates, you can also tap Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates. For more detailed update instructions and troubleshooting, see.

Yeah, that happened to me on a W10 Enterprise laptop earlier today, too!  I've never seen that error before!  When I was offsite on a non-corporate wireless connection the subsequent update check was successful.  I wonder if this was something transient in nature(?).

My initial reaction was that it was possibly caused by Microsoft being in the middle of prepping the update servers and services.  Tomorrow is "Patch Tuesday" after all but I don't think the Microsoft phone stuff follows the same schedule.  As a side note I find it amazing that Apple, who has 10 times as many smartphones to support, can push the button for 100% of their devices to all receive updates at once and can handle it with no issue.  Microsoft's market share is laughable at best and still can't handle updating all of their devices at once?  It's a good thing their market share isn't going up because it would take 2 years to push out an update at this rate.

I got sick of waiting so flashed a different ROM onto mine tonight. The funny thing is I had an unlocked and unbranded version bought from Microsoft and the update not released for it yet (000-gb). I am on EE and they have released the update to there version so I have flashed that onto it. Now I also the Wifi and Volte calling options. So must say I am happy I flashed it rather than waiting.

What ROM did you flash?  I've not seen any on XDA or other sites.

All of different firmware for different devices are on this site ''http://www.lumiafirmware.com/ser/RM-1085''. It also has the instructions of how to do it. It is extremely easy to do.
