Hey folks,

We are starting to rollout a new firmware update today for Lumia 950/950 XL: 01078.00053.16236.35xxx. Key improvements in this release include:

  • Wi-Fi connectivity improvements, including fixes for Wi-Fi connection dropping randomly and Wi-Fi scan occasionally not returning any results.
  • Support for double tap to wake enabled.
  • Bluetooth connectivity improvements.
  • Stability and reliability improvements.
  • Camera improvements, including improved image and video quality, improved Auto-focus and fix for a problem that was causing slow motion capture to skip frames for some users.
  • Cellular connectivity improvements, including fix for a problem that caused occasional network loss for some users.
  • Audio quality improvements, including fix for a problem that caused voice call audio to get scrambled for some users.

The availability of the update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. Starting today, the update should become available for the first batch of phones and the remaining ones are expected to receive the update gradually.

Windows 10 is updating continuously, so make sure you follow all the update notifications that appear on your phone. To check for updates, you can also tap Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates. For more detailed update instructions and troubleshooting, see.

Windows Device Recovery tool tells me there is a Firmware update for my  Lumia 950

(New firmware update for Lumia 950: 01078.00053.16236.35005 )

Unfortunately the OS on the server is older than the one on my device.

Is there perhaps a way to install only the Firmware update through the WDR without it affecting my OS and downgrading it?

I would wait for the update to come OTA but fear my carrier (Vodacom South Africa) might be procrastinating.

no you can't upgrade firmware only, but you can flash it with WDR then update it via OTA that will keep the newer firmware and update the OS only, but keep in mind flashing with WDR will wipe all your data from the phone make sure to backup your data

Okay alot of people is getting confuse the check list is for the Windows OS the firmware is live and people that bought the phone directly from Microsoft and is and unlock from carriers are not getting it some countries are getting from OTA or WDR tool please read this news link from twitter please add them to your twitter or add it to your favs https://twitter.com/WC\_Headlines/status/751104532357066753

this will clear all the confusion

You my friend are confused.  You do realize that every single variant has it's own firmware file, right?  The US based 950 and 950 XL do NOT have a completed firmware since the carriers haven't approved them yet - even the unlocked/unbranded phones.

    Check for yourself:  http://www.lumiafirmware.com/ser/RM-1116/guid/059X505

That is the US based 950 XL, dual SIM.  The last published firmware for it is March 22nd.  The phones getting the OTA received a firmware published on July 1st.

If Microsoft weren't catering to AT&T's stupid, lengthy whims, we'd have it already but since AT&T is demanding that they test every firmware (NOT the OS), Microsoft can't push it.
