El Capitan and Microsoft Mouse (IntelliPoint) Not Working

I also was able to reset some of my Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 functions.

With Intelipoint I had the right mouse button showing the Dashboard. I was able to re-establish it using the Mission Control Preference Pane in System Preferences. I set "Show Dashboard" as the F12 key in the first column, and I set Mouse Button 5 in the 2nd column. I also set the right button to Mission Control using Mouse Button 4, also F9. I believe that clicking on the scrollwheel is considered button #3 and I went ahead and set that to the Applications windows, also F10.

I was able to adjust the mouse scrolling  and tracking speeds with the Mouse  Preference Pane. Not quite as responsive as I remember with Intelipoint, but much improved from what I had right after Intelipoint became disabled.

UPDATE:

FYI for others who may be trying the Keyboard Maestro trick -- I could not get Keyboard Maestro to "see" the star keys, 1 through 5, until I disabled the USB Overdrive software. USBO on - won't see the key press, off, it does, and this was repeatable.  Maybe just a quirk of my system/model of Keyboard 4000, but I thought I'd share this experience here.  Once I disabled USBO, I had no trouble using budsimrin's tip!  I am now reprogramming all the keys, including the one's I'd used USBO for, with Keyboard Maestro.

Hah!  BRILLIANT!  I own and use Keyboard Maestro heavily, but didn't know about (or remember, or see the implications of this feature.)  Yes! Works!  Thanks so much!  My Mac is so automated by Keyboard Maestro that I don't know what I'd do without it, and I know I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do, as your post here shows me.

Maybe Microsoft will finally get an El Capitan update out some day, but in the meantime, Keyboard Maestro to the rescue!  Can't recommend this program enough; it's saved me countless hours of work and made my use of the Mac a joy.  Thanks again, budsiimrin!

Actually, I found a way to use Keyboard Maestro to reprogram ALL the user keys including not only 1-5 but also Home, Calculator,

Applications, etc. Simply user the trigger "This device key", then click on any key on the keyboard and it will be accepted.

I would post a screen shot of how simple this is but even the least quality I can generate greatly exceeds the allowed message limit. Strange. My Keyboard Maestro macros to launch an app on my Mac contains but a single command in addition to the trigger. Namely, "Open application-name".

I have the same issue. Would love to have a working IntelliPoint driver for MacOS El Capitan.

How can I inform the IntelliPoint development team about the issue? Only found a phone number to contact on the Microsoft Hardware site.
