Lumia 950 battery drains rapidly

I have a Lumia 950 XL and it seems to be doing the same thing.  Yesterday, I had 100% battery then played a game or two and sent some text messages and maybe read a few emails.  In about 3 hours, I had 28% battery left.  My previous phone was a Lumia 928 and it could go all day with more usage.  I contacted Microsoft support and they asked me if I had reset the phone.  They said to backup everything first and then do the reset.  If this didn't fix it, then they said to contact them.  I will be doing that tonight to see if the issue goes away.  It is very hot when I charge the phone and takes much longer than I would expect (easily 7 hours to get a full charge).  The 950 XL is supposed to be liquid cooled but it is very warm to the touch most of the time.  This morning, the charge is going down pretty fast, but not as fast as yesterday.

During initial setup, there is a ton of things that are turned on automatically and you have to turn them off, like location services, sending data about typing, sending data about web browsing...etc...

Also remove unnecessary live tiles that you do not need that require connectivity.

Once you turn all of these off, it saves on the battery...also turn off wifi and bluetooth if you are not using it. I used mine yesterday with minimal usage around 9am and by 11pm it was down to 78% battery left.

Wait a second. You said that I should buy the phone costs 650$ and just turn off all the features that costs that much?

I've been using HTC Mozart (wp7), HTC 8X (wp8), Lumia 1320 (wp8) and everything you said was turned on all the time, and there were not any problems. Lumia 1320  worked 2-4 days without charging, btw it has almost same battery capacity. I'm expecting the same experience with 950/950XL, why not?

All the time windows phone (both 7 and 8) was very optimized operating system that really could use battery effective, much better than some of competitors, and that was one of the most delightful traits of that OS. Looks like that wp10 is just not optimized yet and we got just close-to-release-but-still-beta version.

Yes, your advice is definitely helpful, everything you wrote should help to save the battery, but this is not an option many people wanted. It's like we buying a Ferrari that could ride only 10 miles after gas station.

I don't have many live tiles at all.  The most active is probably just the email tile.  I don't use facebook (or any other networking site), so there is really very little activity going on this phone.  I had a Lumia 928 running the same tiles and it didn't seem to have this option.  I think I am going to do the reset as suggested by Microsoft support just to take that off the list.  It may be that there is a bad batch of batteries or it could be something in the OS that the reset may correct.  I love this phone and see no other option so I'm going to figure this out.

Haha, I agree. W10 mobile is still in its infancy in my opinion...right now yeah there isn't really any optimization, but a lot of things I noticed is that MS wants to know how you use your phone to assist with that optimization, but then again, if we leave all of that on to assist, then we can't use our phone for very long...so it's kind of a lose-lose situation.

Hopefully, it gets to the point of where 7/8 was soon, and I keep telling myself that universal apps/OS will be a good thing.

Michael0924, there is one thing you can check...it has a built-in battery monitor, if you go to settings -> system -> battery saver -> battery use it shows whats eating up your battery...that should help you narrow things down.
