Battery drain while in sleep mode (Windows 10)

Hello

I have an Asus GL551. It original had Windows 8.1 on it but I upgraded to Windows 10 a few months ago. Ever since it has been running Windows 10 the battery will drain completely within 10-12 hours while in sleep mode. When it had Windows 8.1 this was not an issue. There would still be plenty of battery power even after a few days of not being used and in sleep mode.

I suspect that is is coming out of sleep mode periodically and draining the battery. Just the other day I had been watching a YouTube video. When It finished I closed the lid of the laptop putting it to sleep. About two hours later, with the lid closed the laptop started playing the Youtube video all by itself. I had not touched the computer and the lid was still closed.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Kevin

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing your concern on Microsoft community.

We appreciate you for trying the troubleshooting steps.

As the issue still persists, I suggest you to try creating a new power plan and check if it helps

    Refer to the below link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/power-plans-faq#1TC=windows-8

Note: Applies to Windows 10 as well.

Hope it helps, reply to us with the status of your issue. We will be happy to assist you.

    I have same problem with my brand new Lenovo laptop. The link above has nothing to do withbattery.   This is what I did;

I changed "Power button" function to put the computer to Hibernate mode and "Closing the lid" to put the computer in Sleep Mode.

This way, when I leave the laptop overnight and I don't want to shut it off, the power button saves me a lot of time as well as battery.

    Hi All,

I have an asus notebook (UX501V).

When I put it in sleep mode, or just close it (not shut down), it drains fast.

My old windows 7 laptop could sleep for a week without loosing more than 1% battery.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Kanthini,

Battery drains drastically if there are too many background applications running on your computer even in Sleep mode. This means that this mode is customization and can allow programs running. To ensure that we can provide the appropriate resolution for your concern with Power options, we’d like to ask you a few questions:

    • Which version or build of Windows device are you using? To know, press Windows + R to open the Run window. Type winver and press Enter. A new window will open showing the version and build number of your Windows device.
    • What were the recent changes made on your computer before you experienced this issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Are you running a full system scan using Windows Defender?
    • Do you have any background applications running while in Sleep mode?
    • Is your computer overheating?

We’re looking forward to your response.
