Battery drain while in sleep mode (Windows 10)

Hello

I have an Asus GL551. It original had Windows 8.1 on it but I upgraded to Windows 10 a few months ago. Ever since it has been running Windows 10 the battery will drain completely within 10-12 hours while in sleep mode. When it had Windows 8.1 this was not an issue. There would still be plenty of battery power even after a few days of not being used and in sleep mode.

I suspect that is is coming out of sleep mode periodically and draining the battery. Just the other day I had been watching a YouTube video. When It finished I closed the lid of the laptop putting it to sleep. About two hours later, with the lid closed the laptop started playing the Youtube video all by itself. I had not touched the computer and the lid was still closed.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Kevin

    Hi Mdollman,

Thanks for the update. Yes, reinstalling your operating system should be the last resort. Try to reset all of your power plans. Observe right after.

    Here's how:

    1. Go to search, type cmd, run command prompt as administrator.
    2. Type this command:

    powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

    1. Press Enter
    2. Check if issue still persists.

Let me know how it goes.

I've tried everything save re-installing the OS.  When booting into the BIOS to turn off intel smart connect, I can't find any toggle for intel smart connect anywhere in the bios, particularly not in the boot section, so I'm not sure what to do there.  Overall this isn't a major issue of course, but it's definitely annoying.

I have a first gen Microsoft Surface Laptop, with the Core i5 and 8gb RAM.  When I close the lid, putting it into sleep mode, the battery still drains quite a lot.  For example, if I leave it in sleep over night, the battery can easily go down by 30% or more.  During use, the battery life is good though.  I did the battery report thing, and it says I have 97% of original capacity, but has high mWh per percentage used.  Any tips for improving sleep battery life?  Is this normal?
