Battery drain while in sleep mode (Windows 10)

Hello

I have an Asus GL551. It original had Windows 8.1 on it but I upgraded to Windows 10 a few months ago. Ever since it has been running Windows 10 the battery will drain completely within 10-12 hours while in sleep mode. When it had Windows 8.1 this was not an issue. There would still be plenty of battery power even after a few days of not being used and in sleep mode. 

I suspect that is is coming out of sleep mode periodically and draining the battery. Just the other day I had been watching a YouTube video. When It finished I closed the lid of the laptop putting it to sleep. About two hours later, with the lid closed the laptop started playing the Youtube video all by itself. I had not touched the computer and the lid was still closed.

Any ideas?

    This may be arise if you did not configured the power settings properly.

    I suggest you to run the Power troubleshooter and check if it resolves the issue. 

    1) Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel.

    2) Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

    3) Click on View allon the left navigation pane. Click on Power.

    4) Click on Advanced on the power troubleshooter dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

    5) Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Power troubleshooter.

    I poked around online to try and see what solutions are out there.  I was able to run the powercfg/energy report in cmd prompt and got the report below.  The problem is that I am not technical enough to know how to resolve the errors found.   Does anyone know if there is step-by-step documentation out there to walk a relative lay person through these issues?

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply. I have tried the suggested troubleshooting method and tested the device usage for a few days, but the device still has high CPU utilization and it also NEVER, EVER....EVER enters into (DRIPS) Deep sleep.

    The device is a low powered one with the Intel Atom Chipset, 1GB RAM and 16GB Storage, with a 15,751 mWh battery. It is the iView Suprapad i800QW.

    If the issue can be helped that would be much appreciated.

    This issue can be caused due to power settings.

    I would suggest you to provide us some information to help you better.

    1. Did you make any changes on to your computer prior to this issue?

    2. What is the make and model of your computer?

    I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check.

    Method 1: I would suggest you to run the Power troubleshooterand check if it helps.

    a)    Press the ‘Windows + X’ key on the keyboard and select Control Panel.

    b)    Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

    c)    Select Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select Power.

    d)   Click next and follow the on-screen instructions.

    If issue didn’t get resolve try method 2.

    Method 2: I would suggest you to restore default settings of power plan and check if it helps.

    5. Press Windows + X, and select the option Control Panel (Classic View).

    6. Click on the Power Options icon.

    7. Click on Change plan settings.

    8. Select the option “Restore default settings for this plan”.

    If issue still persists try method 3.

    Method 3: Create a power plan

    6. Type Power in search box

    7. Select "Choose a Power Plan"

    8. Click where it says "Create a power plan" in the area on the left side of the Power options window.

    9. Select a power plan to start with such as "Balanced" or "High performance" and then click "Next."

    10. Select a number of minutes you want both the display and the computer sleep mode, and then click "Create."

    Hello everyone,

    The issue that I am concerned about is the battery drain of my Windows tablet since upgrading to Windows 10.

    The battery does not last nearly as long as it did with Windows 8.1 and it has greatly impacted the way that would used my device.

    I have used the batterycfg energy-report and sleep study to find out that my device never enters DRIPS (Deepest Runtime Idle Platform State). In fact the device has a change rate on average of 600mW to 900mW, which should never have been so high. rather it should average near the 120+mW range.

    Also the I have a system required request during sleep by a driver: ACPI\80860F28\1  Intel SST Audio Device (WDM) which prevents the device from going to sleep as well as unusually high CPU utilization which keeps the tablet's batter drain higher than usual.

    I have been waiting for a fix for the sleep and battery drian issue to be addressed by on of the Windows Updates but to no avail so far.

    I would like to know how I can reduce the CPU utilization for the specific process that are active and the drive that prevents the tablet from going into deep sleep.

    Does anyone else seem to have tis problem. Leave a reply with any other experiences that you might have on the matter. Thanks for listening.
