I think, at this point, that Microsoft has completely broken Windows Live Mail - either deliberately or through incompetence:

Every message displays the "Unknown sender" banner

Calendar updates no longer happen (my Windows Phone calendar syncs to the cloud OK)

Attempts to compact the database on shutdown fail with "The folder is currently in use by Windows Live Mail or another application"

Mail downloads stop working with no notification - but then start again after the application is restarted

There is more, but I'm now more interested in figuring out how to transition to Google / Android / Chromebook

Uninstalled Windows Live Essentials, restarted and reinstalled.  Reapplied update KB3093594 and it appears that everything is working.

That was the only thing that worked for me BUT I didn't re-install the KB, so I have a fully working WLM2012 (build 16.4.3528.0331) as I did before the **** ups.

I wont be using any KB's on it until Microsoft and other users will guarantee a fully functioning update.

If the version I have fails to download any Hotmail or Outlook mail then tough I will dump them and use another mail provider who does work such as Gmail or Yahoo.

My updated Live Mail is working fine after I installed the updated update. Live Calendar still has limits on it functions - eg it isn't showing public holidays.

Its not doom and gloom for everyone. :-)

I would happily move to the new Windows 10 Mail app if only it could do group emails and they fixed the touch screen problems on tablets.

    Cheers

Mine worked for a short while and then stopped working again!!!  I deleted and re-created it yet again last night and it worked - but only till I shut WLM down and started it up again!!!!

In the mean time, I found and installed Mozilla's Thunderbird.  It is at least reading my mail properly.  I need to see how I can import all my local folders from WLM and add my othe 2 mail accounts and then I will probably say good bye to WLM for ever.

I am trying to runa a business, manage all my personal accounts and also my wifes accounts and I can't have Microsloth causing such chaos, and that just before Christmas while I was away from home.
