Windows Live Mail and Calendars

Thanks for carrying out the tests. We seem to have established that the d-Mail.msp patch causes Windows Live Mail 16.4.3563.0918 on Windows 10 to crash when attempting to synchronize the calendar after it's been upgraded to Outlook Calendar (Preview). The common crash elements are

Faulting module name: wcsync.dll, version: 16.4.3563.918, time stamp: 0x55fc5749

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0x0001e681

Until this is fixed, you won't be able to synchronize the calendar or contacts for the account concerned. They will still be available online, but if not having access to them in Windows Live Mail is a major problem for you, there are workarounds - post back and say so if this is the case. Follow steps 1 and 2 below to stop the program trying to sync them and prevent the crash caused by wcsync.dll.

Meanwhile, I'd like to know whether you're able to send and receive messages with the account concerned. This only applies to those of you who already have the account set up as an HTTP account; to check, right-click on the account name in the folder pane and select Properties. If there are only three tabs in the properties dialogue, it is an HTTP account, also shown at the top of the Server tab.

If you can't get that far because the program crashes, you'll have to prevent the crash:

1. Disconnect from the Internet before trying to launch Windows Live Mail
2. When the program opens, press Ctrl-Shift-O for Options. On the Connection tab, click Stop signing in and dismiss the warning. Close the options dialogue.
3. Click Send/Receive.

What happens?

Hi,

   I have an imap account (gmail - there are 5 tabs in the properties window) and I am able to send and receive mail when I open Windows Live Mail.   I only have the calendar issue when I try to access the calendar as I described before.  

   I really would like to have access to my calendar via my iphone as that's how I track all my appointments for work.  Also will we be informed when the trouble is corrected?

First, thanks jFiredog for the time spent helping us!

My crash error in the event log is essentially the same as Joe's, but my results from the further testing steps were slightly different.  In phase 2 after displaying the calendar and signing in, the status bar at the bottom displays "Updating Calendar" and Live Mail crashes with the same notice:  "Windows Live Mail has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  However, if I restart Live Mail, I am still signed in, and as long as I don't use the calendar I can manually click "Send/Receive" and download email.  If I restore the settings to send/receive automatically at startup, though, the crash returns during startup.  Definitely seems to be the calendar sync.

I am running the latest Live Mail 2012 build with the calendar-sync patch installed, on up-to-date Windows 10.  Running in compatibility mode for Windows 7 didn't help.

I completed phase l and phase ll  and there were no error messages and if I go to the drop down arrow on the send-receive button and select my account I get my emails. If I enable send and receive messages on start up I get the same problem again,(WLM HAS STOPPED WORKING), because it tries to update the calendar which fails.

After following your Phase 1 and Phase 2 instructions my calendar doesn't sync or even show up now.  After opening up the calendar there is a pause then it tries to load the calendar but quickly gives me this message.

Windows Live Mail has stopped working.

A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. 

Then I have the option to debug or close. 

Selecting debug sets the program to searching the internet only to restart the program and end up with the same issue.
