Universal mobile keyboard won't work

The keyboard works fine while plugged in charging but as soon as it is unplugged to actually be mobile, like its name would suggest, it won't turn on. Even manually using the power/pair button on the side doesn't work. Am I missing something or does it sound like it's definitely broken?

2020-02-04T15:43:49+00:00 Even I am having the same problem. Have kept the product on charge for more than 5 hours. And as soon as I unplug, it disconnects and turns off.
Kindly help me Microsoft.

2019-06-10T08:37:54+00:00 After 4 years, and over 1000 responses, it's a real shame that Microsoft haven't responded in any meaningful way.
Just to be clear for anyone new to this thread:
- This product has a manufacturing fault with poor soldering on the power socket which means eventually the battery stops charging - although the power socket still provides power.
- There are no fixes, just return the keyboard if you can. The folding keyboard doesn't have this issue, or go with Logitech.
- Microsoft don't care, and the top 'answer' here, which is basically 'RTFM,' is wrong.

2019-03-29T05:56:00+00:00 Same thing... purchased a while ago so guarantee is finished. Worked for a time and then stopped charging. Nice to have to travel with a battery pack for a portable keyboard... . I'll go to Logitech instead. I imagine MS will not organise a call-back (as they should...)

Sigh, same here. Got it a while ago, now it could not charge and is out of warranty....
Ive got several MS hw products, like windows phone, surface pro, and none of them is free of problems. Will not trust them anymore.
