Universal mobile keyboard won't work

The keyboard works fine while plugged in charging but as soon as it is unplugged to actually be mobile, like its name would suggest, it won't turn on. Even manually using the power/pair button on the side doesn't work. Am I missing something or does it sound like it's definitely broken?

    After 4 years, and over 1000 responses, it's a real shame that Microsoft haven't responded in any meaningful way.

    Just to be clear for anyone new to this thread:

    1. This product has a manufacturing fault with poor soldering on the power socket which means eventually the battery stops charging - although the power socket still provides power.
    2. There are no fixes, just return the keyboard if you can. The folding keyboard doesn't have this issue, or go with Logitech.
    3. Microsoft don't care, and the top 'answer' here, which is basically 'RTFM,' is wrong.

    Unfortunately this is the reality.

    I had the same problem: wireless keyboard power dependent. I reached MS and they said: warranty expired, in Brazil there is no such a thing as Technical Assistance (there is no office that can assist me with this matter).

    I read some ideas here such as power bank that may help in a short term, but problably I will go Logitech in the future.

    Darshil, I'm afraid you're a few years too late.

    This is a design / manufacturing problem with the keyboard, a bad soldering connection inside. It's impossible to fix and Microsoft have never once admitted to the problem - let alone accepted liability - so you're unlikely to get a response from them.

    Your best bet is to return it and get a refund if you can. The foldable keyboard doesn't have this problem, or of course you can choose another manufacturer that actually cares about its customers - maybe Logitech?
