How to access the Registry

Good job.

First I'm wondering why you have so many tasks that are still afflicted...  Some users report that the RepairTasks thing fixes them right up so why didn't that do it for your system.

I think now you need to look at your list of broken tasks and figure out which ones are the "important" ones that would come with a fresh install of Windows - like the RegIdleBackup.  That comes with a fresh install of Windows and is an important task that you would want to have working.

Your list had as corrupt:

So you've fixed that one and proved it works - good job.

Look at a couple more in your list:

If you look in the list of tasks from the RepairTasks ZIP folder you will find a folder and task inside for each of those so that means they come with a fresh install of Windows and would be considered important ones that need to be fixed (and they look important just by their name).

Notice some in the list say "Task not installed" and some say "Task image corrupt":

It looks like you can fix the corrupt ones like you did RegIdleBackup, but there are some that say not installed so what are they and what are you going to do about those?

Well, if you read the Documentation tab on the RepairTasks page they tell you what those are and that they can be "left alone" and tells you how to delete them so they don't show up when you run the scan again:

Those not installed look like some leftover collateral damage from switching back to Windows 7 (the afflicted process from Microsoft).  Whack 'em.

So maybe you just need to fix the corrupt ones and don't need to worry about the ones that are not installed (delete them) but you can perform a Google search on them if you are curious about them.

The good news is your list of afflicted tasks will be smaller when you get rid of the not installed ones.

Now you have some detective work and some leg work to do.

I deleted the task in the new location you gave me, installed a new copy from the W7Task list, ran it, checked in the Regback folder, and all 5 files had uptodate times.

It's late and I have a busy morning, so I probably won't be able to see to the remaining tasks until tomorrow pm. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I'm still liking the idea of just getting one fixed if you can p to see how to do it.

The tasks are also stored here:

c:\windows\system32\tasks

There is a Microsoft folder under there and also a Windows\Registry folder with the XML file in it.

Maybe that is the clue to the message:

You must delete all tasks and subfolders from the folder before the folder can be deleted

You could rename the folder instead of deleting it*.*

I've about reached the edge of my actual experience on how to fix these things and am not giving up, but not sure how to go for the kill shot on at least one of the afflicted tasks except to keep poking at it until it behaves.

There is also support from the RepairTasks WWW site that might help.

I will check in on things tomorrow sometime and see what discoveries you have made.

This is a bit peculiar. If I try to import the right task into the Registry folder, either nothing happens, or I get the corrupt message. The window remains blank, however. If I try to delete the Registry folder, either nothing happens, or I get the message "You must delete all tasks and subfolders from the folder before the folder can be deleted."

I've accessed the Advanced Explorer option in regedit and the Superhidden key has the correct value of 1.

So there seems to be a task in the Registry folder which I can't see or delete.

I have not come across that and some folders might really be empty and that may not be a problem.

I deleted my task, then the Registry folder - the made a new folder called Registry and imported RegIdleBackup into the new folder and it seemed to work okay so that looks like a good idea from here.

What results do you get if you use the RepairTasks Scan function again - does it report issues if you just Scan again?
