I may be the only person on Earth with this problem, but the scroll wheel on the Designer Bluetooth Mouse stopped working, seemingly out of nowhere. All other functionality of the mouse remains in good working order. Perhaps I need to return it seeing as I've been using it for only a few months, but I figured I would check to see if there is a simple fix before pleading my case at the store.

I got my fixed. I decided to glue the hex axle to the wheel and is working just fine now.
If you have the mouse for less than 2 years in the EU, you should get it it serviced either through Microsoft costumer support or your reseller.
If you have it for more than 2 years, at least this mouse is very easy to repair! (Unlike the Wedge mouse...)
I too, have incurred the exact same issue with my device. Sadly due to this forum and it's findings i will no longer be looking to purchase Microsoft products any longer.
TL;DR
Microsoft designer bluetooth mouse, straight out of box. Scroll wheel does not work. Deleted drivers, adjusted setting, reboots, device on/off, doesn't seem to be a software issue but a hardware one. Not surprised microsoft support couldn't offer any assistance for one of their low-tier products.

I got a replacement mouse delivered at the my door by Microsoft and it has worked fine ever since.
Take it into the MS store and they'll swap it out for you. We've had this happen to about 10-15 of ours at the office.
I have the very same issue. Mouse working fine since i bought it 3 months ago and then all of a sudden whilst i was scrolling it started to free wheel and obviously not scroll the page.
