Bad Microsoft Media Feature Pack(KB3010081) installation for Windows 10 N

I've recently reinstalled my computer with Windows 10 Pro N x64 and updated to build 10586. It's the same hardware and same Windows version only a newer build(just a clean reinstall from scratch).

Since my game called "Call of Duty Black Ops 3" requires the Microsoft Media Feature Pack I installed update KB3010081. After installing the 64bit version it still gives me an error mentioning that I have to install the Microsoft Media Feature Pack. So I installed the 32bit version and the error is still there. When I try to reinstall one of the two updates now I see the following error:

After that I checked wether the Windows Media Player program was installed or not and it turns out it's not there.

Then I tried to uninstall the update by doing the following command:

wusa /uninstall /kb:3010081

But that results in the following error:

After that I tried downloading the updates and executing the following commands:

wusa /uninstall C:\Temp\Windows10-KB3010081-x64.msu

wusa /uninstall C:\Temp\Windows10-KB3010081-x86.msu

But that gave me the exact same error.

Is there a way to uninstall the update or does anyone know the solution to get the Microsoft Media Feature Pack(KB3010081) installed properly?

P.S. It used to work on my Windows 10 Pro N x64 installation a couple of days ago, but I guess it was not on the latest build.

So I too ran into this problem some time ago and thought it was solved forever with the KB3099229 update as mentioned by RickGoemans.

However, the recently released Windows anniversary update seemed to have uninstalled KB3010081 and KB3099229 for me (they no longer showed up in Windows' installed updates list). Reinstalling KB3099229 didn't seem to have any effect (Media Player was still not shown in the features list of Windows)...

 After a lot of googling it turns out there's an even newer version of the Media Pack: KB3133719 (available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53356 ). 

So to sum up, there’s now three updates that supposedly fix this problem:

KB3010081 

KB3099229

KB3133719

    Method 1:

    I suggest you to set the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps. Setting the system in a clean boot state will help to identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

    Warning:

    1. Applies to Windows 10.
    2. After clean boot troubleshooting steps, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

    Method 2:

    If the issue persists, I would suggest you to disable Antivirus software/ Firewall and check if it helps.

    Warning :

    1. Please make sure to re-enable Antivirus software after performing troubleshooting steps.
    2. Antivirus software/ Firewall can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable or uninstall your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable or uninstall it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled or uninstalled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hello.

    I'm now able to install KB3099229 but it shows up as being KB3010081:

    After restarting it says can't update and that is undoing whatever was done.

    Hello

    I found that applying the update KB3099229 installs as if it were KB3010081 I presume a fix for the bug in KB3099229 because following this and a very long restart loop (22 minutes) I was able to see Media Features in the Windows Features list.  Only when I checked this box and again restated windows did Windows Media Player appear on a search but not in the expected program group.

    The whole treatment of WMP 12 in Windows 10 is very perplexing.

    1. The update Media player Get Media Player web page has no download functionality just stupid "Learn More" information that loops you round and round three pages with no where to download and information advising it should already be installed with Windows
    2.  None of my Windows 10 Pro N (3) machines had media player installed so I presume hundreds of thousands of other people will be in the same situation.
    3. There is no information or link to the Feature Pack from the WMP update page.  Why not?
    4.  Why does a system that has media player installed via the feature pack not put in into the proper program group?
    5.  Why does application and features not list it as an application in its own right not hide it in a feature setting?
    6.  Why did my first system that had Media Player installed and working via the convoluted Feature Pack process since September 2015 suddenly lose the functionality I presume via a windows update requiring the application of KB3099229 update?

    All in all I have in total spent 5 hours fixing the three systems in our house on this occasion having wasted 3.5 hours in September all because the WMP was not included in the upgrade from Win7 N Pro and because the website for WMP did not just have a download for the required feature pack where it should have been as a link.

    Microsoft first upset their user base by depreciating Windows Media Centre  and it appears by stealth they are phasing out Media Player so I expect many will switch to platforms where the user base is not treated with such contempt.
