Update for Windows Live Essentials Mail 2012 (KB3093594) kills WLM 2012

Have been using this program for months now on windows 10 32 bit, and I get an email saying that MS are making changes to Outlook servers and to patch WLM 2012 and a download link.

I applied the patch and now after a few seconds of being open WLM 2012 crashes while updating the calendar.

Anyone know a fix for this? I have taken the patch off by repairing Windows essentials 2012 from the Programs and features dialog, but anyone know why this patch causes WLM to crash after a few seconds?

    If you don't keep any email on the server, then it sounds as if you ought to be using POP3 rather than IMAP. This can be configured to delete messages from the server.

    I am far from an expert on email protocols pert and you may well be correct. I had read several articles on pros and cons of both and admit to no fully understanding all implications in depth.

    I was under the impression POP3 is less much flexible. Would it sync with and show draft, sent Junk (spam) and deleted folders as IMAP does?

    With POP3 Would I still be able to view new emails delivered via Outlook.com online if my Home electrics or PC went on the blink blink for days. Or online form mt PC via Outlook.com

    I have just installed Thunderbird and am experimenting (but prefer WLM 2012 as I'm used to it and I believe its simpler to use. One advantage (during the comparison experiment (which I freely admit is temporary) is that with IMAP until I actually delete move or store locally new emails received I can run both WLM 2012 and Thunderbird and each will sync the same. Could I do that with POP3? or would it be lost form the server once one or the other app synced/downloaded

    My other big concern is as POP3 is much older than IMAP whether it too will be ditched like DAV (in Outlook Express) was and Delta Sync.  I feel IMAP more likely to be around for a long time.

    Finally, I am keen to have my WLM 2012 email accounts work and look similar as they did with my previous Delta Synced Hotmail and Oulook addresses (and my other Non MS IMAP addresses on WLM 2012).

    Please excuse my ignorance jFiredog on my understanding and the "Real World" differences for me between the two protocols. If there are good reasons you feel POP3 is better for me and the best way to go, then I'd like to know the main advantages over IMAP if you have time.
