Update for Windows Live Essentials Mail 2012 (KB3093594) kills WLM 2012

Hi,

I'm totally lost now and need help.  My laptop running windows 7 with WLM I applied the Dec. 11th patch.  When I did that I lost my folders and subfolders, but got them back with a response I followed here.  What I see that is still screwed up are the emails in my sent folder addressed to me.

Now I see there is another patch dated 12/17 but that still seems to have problems as well, from what I can determine by reading.  I'm not tech savvy so I'm struggling.

I also have a computer running windows 10, which I've applied no patch because of the problems I had with the 12/11 patch (applied only to my windows 7 laptop).

What am I to do now?  What do I have to do with windows 7 laptop with the 12/11 applied patch, if anything?

My computer running windows 10 and WLM, am I to do anything?

This forum post is about the email Microsoft sent out on December 11 regarding d-Mail.msp described in KB3093594.  Understanding this situation is important to Windows users.

In my opinion it would be best not to clutter this thread with pros and cons of Microsoft's strategies.

Apparently, Microsoft is discontinuing the support of DeltaSync protocol which is currently used by Windows Essentials Live Mail 2012.  This would be like the time about 6 years ago when Microsoft discontinued support for WebDAV and Outlook Express.

My assumption is that Microsoft plans to simplify its email/calendar/contacts technology and offer a single technology based on Microsoft Exchange and the Exchange ActiveSync protocol.  This differs from Microsoft's previous strategy of the last 20 years of having one email product for home-customers and a different email product for business-customers.

I haven't used Thunderbird in quite some time - but, I don't believe it supports Microsoft Exchange.

So, Internet Message Access Protocol and Thunderbird doesn't address that issue - and, really doesn't seem like a long term strategy if you are interested in using Windows 10 and other Microsoft technologies.  Microsoft Exchange is a huge and varied set of technologies that has far reaching impact on Microsoft customers.

Update:

I researched using Thunderbird with Exchange Server.  For the vast majority of Windows users, I would not recommend trying to do that.  Most Windows users need a simple, straightforward solution.

Wikipedia: Thunderbird is an email, newsgroup, news feed, and chat (XMPP, IRC, Twitter) client. The vanilla version is not a personal information manager, although the Mozilla Lightning extension adds PIM functionality. Additional features, if needed, are often available via other extensions.

That is all very fine if MS provide an alternative that actually works before they kill WLM.

The new Win 10 Mail won't work at all for me - I've tried hard to set it up. That is why we look for alternatives to WLM. - that work for home users.

TBird works with IMAP.  EM client currently works using Deltasync but there are problems with it using IMAP

I have not been able to get the patch to work either.  And now that I have Windows 10 and the WLM does not work with Yahoo's updated email.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled WLM and it still does not work with Yahoo but will work with my Gmail account and my work account.  Windows 10 Mail does not work well for me either.  I hope the patch is fixed or a program similar to WLM comes out.  Thank you for your info.
