Update for Windows Live Essentials Mail 2012 (KB3093594) kills WLM 2012

There appear to be reports in this thread stating problem with update exists on 7, 8 &8.1 and not just improper application to 10.

I use WLM2012 on a win8.1 64bit desktop. I have an @outlook.com account just for interaction with Microsoft and that is syncd into WLM with my main email account. Currently all works fine.

Received the infamous email and was tempted to apply update in readiness for changes but, fortunately, decided to "google" the update for better understanding. Reports of problems with WLM post update stopped me in my tracks!

Have Microsoft conceded this is a fundamental issue with update and announced a plan to revise it?

OR is there a categoric assurance that update works ok on 8.1? Any plans for a further email / update?

At present, I am taking no action with the update. What are the likely issues?

Seeing all the bad about this update, I will not be downloading it unless MS issues a fixed version. I have W7 and like it and will not be upgrading to W10. Those of us who have been with MS from W95, know trying to upgrade an OS on an existing machine is Microsoft Russian Roulette. I like Windows Live Mail 2012 and if it stops working in 3 weeks, I'm already shopping for another email client to check all my accounts (1 Outlook,com,  3 Hotmail, and 1 Yahoo). I still miss Outlook Express and it seems MS wants to put WLM in the same grave and maybe get out of the no-profit mail client business once and for all.

I too decided to google the update before I did anything and like you stopped in my tracks.  Then I realized the problem was with Windows 10 and figured the patch would work on Win 8.1 that I run.  Now I'm afraid to do anything.  I have used WLM for years and would live to keep it.  I too would like to know if it safe and works for Win 8.1.

Allow me to lend you and anyone else a hand. Correct me If I'm wrong, It seems Microsoft proceeds ahead with their own agenda not taking heed to our voices unless it's feedback to improve on their own products. Enough is enough!

If you are concerned about how the update will affect you, just create a System Restore Point before applying the patch. If you need help doing the restore point, follow the instructions found here:

If you run into trouble after the WLM update, simply go back and to System protection and use the System Restore function there. Hope this helps. Good luck! :)
