Update for Windows Live Essentials Mail 2012 (KB3093594) kills WLM 2012

Have been using this program for months now on windows 10 32 bit, and I get an email saying that MS are making changes to Outlook servers and to patch WLM 2012 and a download link.

I applied the patch and now after a few seconds of being open WLM 2012 crashes while updating the calendar.

Anyone know a fix for this? I have taken the patch off by repairing Windows essentials 2012 from the Programs and features dialog, but anyone know why this patch causes WLM to crash after a few seconds?

Tim

    Go to the command prompt (run from start menu).

    msiexec /package {B775C26B-EAA8-4A11-ACBF-76E52DF6B805} /uninstall {342DCD5D-5946-453B-97AC-D53B7662EDF5}

    After running the command

    Choose repair and follow the steps in the wizard. Once you've done this, Windows Live Mail will be reverted back to the old version without the issues of the update.

    I installed the patch and lost all the sub-folders from my personal folders.

    Uninstalled WLM did a sytem cleanup with both McAfee and AVG PC Tuneup then re-installed WLM.

    Sub-folders still missing so added a new temp folder to each of my personal folders - shut down WLM.

    Restarted WLM and all sub-folders had returned - then cleaned out temp folders.

    Now back to where I was before I installed the patch.

    Should have known better than to install a patch without checking its validity, especially after I just got rid of the dreaded, persistent Windows 10 updates.

    Hi duber432. I found it on other sites (and see it is also in this topic)

    1. I used Start menu>Run and pasted this and it uninstalled the patch. To play safe I also did a repair of WLM 2012 afterwards via Control Panel Programs & Features (i clicked on the WLM 2012 entry and selected repair.

    msiexec /package {B775C26B-EAA8-4A11-ACBF-76E52DF6B805} /uninstall {342DCD5D-5946-453B-97AC-D53B7662EDF5}

    1. AFTER my last (ONLY) post in this Topic I tried to setup up my Hotmail account using IMAPand it is working perfectly (IMAP I find it a little slower updating folders than Delta sync

    I am no expert on IMAP or server settings. I am guessing if MS does not switch that off as well then my Hotmail will work via IMAP without needing the patch.

    Maybe a more knowledgable person than me will be kind enough to  confirm/deny please

    I found online and am using the following settings

    Incoming mail (IMAP):    imap-mail.outlook.com   (Port 993)

    I ticked "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

    Outgoing mail (SMTP):   smtp-mail.outlook.com   (Port 587)

    I ticked "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

    Under "Outgoing Mail server" I ticked "My server requires authentication"

    When folders were added to WLM there were some (sort of) duplicate folders:   Sent and Sent Items,  Junk and Junk Items and Delete and Delete Items (I deleted the folders with items in their name having already just gone online and deleting the same folders online as in WLM 2012 (Note in both cases ONLY the folders labelled "... items" were allowed to be deleted (delete option was greyed out for all the other folders).

    As I said I do not understand IMAP and its various setting, or its Properties IMAP tab (under the right click properties, so I can only say what I did and It is working perfectly so far. I do not know if necessary or very necessary (Once again maybe some kind soul can enlighten/educate me) so here goes:

    In that WLM 2012 (Hotmail Account's Properties> IMAP tab under the "special folders" section there were ( I am trying hard to remember) for the Sent, Delete and Junk path entries the associated names were initially Sent Items, Junk items and Delete items. I changed them to just Sent, Junk and Delete. My thinking (rightly or wrongly) was MAYBE it was these causing the extra 3 folders and if not not maybe if not changed the 3 extra folder will be added again.

    The "Store special folders on IMAP server" option was TICKED by default and I have left it ticked. I again have no idea if this section is really needed or if it should be unticked.

    Anyway I am able to send receive my Hotmail emails without issue, except as I said ,updating the various folders with (deleted or sent for example is a little slower than Delta sync was (but no slower than my other non MS IMAP email account s in WLM 2012
