Update for Windows Live Essentials Mail 2012 (KB3093594) kills WLM 2012

Have been using this program for months now on windows 10 32 bit, and I get an email saying that MS are making changes to Outlook servers and to patch WLM 2012 and a download link.

I applied the patch and now after a few seconds of being open WLM 2012 crashes while updating the calendar.

Anyone know a fix for this? I have taken the patch off by repairing Windows essentials 2012 from the Programs and features dialog, but anyone know why this patch causes WLM to crash after a few seconds?

Tim

S **ORRY "theneills" this is linked as a reply which it is NOT but I cannot find any way to just add a comment to this Topic. Maybe I am getting old and senile :).**Would really love to know how just add an unlinked comment to the overall discussion.

Really appreciate MS sending us emails urging us to download a faulty patch which seriously compromises WLM 2012 functionality with various issues

MY issue (different from most to date)

I have 1 outlook account and two Hotmail all received the patch email.

Unlike many here I do NOT logon to windows Live when I open WLM 2012 and I never use the Calendar or try syncing it or my contacts.  (I ceased syncing my contacts after my account was hacked and all my online contacts were spammed as a result). Now I keep my contacts ONLY Local on my PC and NEVER sync with online (not an issue for me)

OK My issue only found tonight

After applying the patch to WLM 2012 on my Win 10 Pro (x64) (TH2 updated) WLM yesterday everything (for my setup seemed to be fine) and WLM 2012 has never crashed since.  However I have now found another ugly side to this retrograde patch.

I had cause to send an email tonight to a friend. After I hit send it went to the WLM Outbox (as usual) but after disappearing from the Outbox instead of instantaneously appearing in my Hotmail Sent folder it took a few minutes to do so.  At first thought the send had failed and i was really concerned as it was a long email.  When it did bother to arrive in my WLM 2012 Hotmail Sent folder (all folder are synced with online) it reported that the email was sent  to MYSELF.  A right click on the email and a look at its properties showed it actually went to my friend as intended.

I then signed on online to see what showed up there, and online it correctly shows as having been sent To my friend. So this issue is purely down to the patch fouling up WLM 2012s ability to report the TO column in the Sent Folder correctly.

I note emails received by me (after patch installed) show correctly in my Inbox who they came from.

I did several test emails to my wife's Hotmail account and she (who uses my WLM 2012 and my PC) sent 2 to me.

All in WLM 2012's sent folder showed as being sent to the SENDER and NOT to the actual intended recipient. All however did go to the intended recipient and were correctly received and the Inbox correctly reported who sent them.

I copied my email to my friend (showing as sent to me) from my Hotmail Sent folder to a  local WLM 2012 folder relating to emails to and from my friend. As soon as the email hit THAT Local WLM Folder it CORRECTLY reported it was sent TO my friend. So at first look it seems only the Hotmail Sent folder is misreporting/fouled up by the patch.

I then uninstalled the patch and repaired WLM 2012.  When I sent an email to my wife and vice versa they switched from WLM's Outbox to our respective Hotmail Sent Folders immediately (as normal before the patch) AND they correctly showed under the TO column who the emails were sent to.

I also noted all emails sent by my wife or I whilst the patch was installed STILL showed up as sent to OURSELVES even though the patch had been uninstalled completely.  I also noted whilst the patch was installed that on adding the from column to the Sent Folder it shows icons but NO text at all (almost seems like WLM (with patch) is shunting From name to the TO column and goodness knows if that IS the case where the To details (into the void I assume : )

Anyway I hope a new working patch from MS is released before the switch over from delta sync. IF NOT I am off to Thunderbird as I hate the new Windows 10 Mail App, which seems to want force me to sync everything with online which I do not wish to do, when I tried to set up an account to test the app.. I refused to Log-in online and it created my account in its list of initial accounts but when I clicked on is it said it could not open due to an error.

The mail app provided no method to delete the incomplete or corrupted file.  In the end I had to do a Full system restore from a week old backup file) to clear the Error account.

(Hate the Mail app. Long Live WLM 2012 easy to use and was reliable and trusted by me before the patch.

Hope this info is of interest.  Even more so, I hope MS are monitoring and taking serious notes of the mountain of WLM users reporting issues and crashing of WLM 20912 on many Forums and Websites  after trusting the MS Outlook email and installing the patch as instructed
