Update for Windows Live Essentials Mail 2012 (KB3093594) kills WLM 2012

Have been using this program for months now on windows 10 32 bit, and I get an email saying that MS are making changes to Outlook servers and to patch WLM 2012 and a download link.

I applied the patch and now after a few seconds of being open WLM 2012 crashes while updating the calendar.

Anyone know a fix for this? I have taken the patch off by repairing Windows essentials 2012 from the Programs and features dialog, but anyone know why this patch causes WLM to crash after a few seconds?

    Apparently they released the patch without testing it, or they are testing it on the users of WLM.

    Larry,

    uninstalling WLM probably destroys the folder structure of my personal folders inside Live Mail. So I decided to go back a few days in systemrecovery. Now Live Mail works again. This update is real **** and Microsoft should send users an email NOT to use it!!

    ... does this mean that if I'm running WLM 2012 on a windows 10 machine that I DONT need to upgrade WLM after my account gets upgraded to the new preview version of outlook?

    Or am I totally screwed if I want to use WLM 2012 on windows 10?

    Upgraded accounts will no longer synchronize in Windows Live Mail unpatched. I expect they'll eventually find the reason why the patch causes the program to crash on Windows 10, but until they do, we're stuck with it.

    If you don't sign in, it doesn't matter much. You can simply set up the mail account to use IMAP instead. If you do sign in, your only option after the account has been upgraded is to install the patch and then run the program in compatibility mode for Windows 8. No-one has yet reported back that this doesn't work, but it's still early days.

    So, no, you're not totally screwed.

    I would've liked to use the windows 10 mail app, but I tried it and found it lacking in features so I discontinued using it. The main reasons I didn't like it was because it doesn't support rules and I like to create custom folders with the names of the people I receive emails from and I use rules to have the emails automatically delivered to the named folders. Much easier to organize that way. I don't understand why windows 10 mail app is so stripped down?

    I had the same problem, after installing the patch wlm would crash every few seconds "window live mail has stopped working". I tried repairing from "programs and features" and restarting but that didn't work. What did work, like others have mentioned was to uninstall then reinstall wlm. Thankfully non of the setting or messages were lost in the process.

    Here is a copy of the email that I received:

    If you use Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, we recommend that you switch to the built in Mail app in Windows to stay connected and get the latest feature updates on<br>Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.
    Windows Live Essentials 2009 and 2011 are not supported anymore, and you will need to update to Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 and use the Mail app, or use<br>www.outlook.com. To learn more about the Mail app, please<br>click here.
    We also recommend all Windows Live Mail users on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 to<br>upgrade to Windows 10 and use the built in Mail application to stay connected and get the latest feature updates.

    You need to completely uninstall WLM. You cannot remove just the update.

    Have you tried running it in windows 8 compatibility mode as suggested above?

    I have not tried that yet.
