Many users of Windows Live Mail 2012 have received an email under this heading from the Outlook Team advising them of the changes that are taking place at Outlook.com as accounts are migrated to the same platform as that used by Office 365. Apart from advice to switch to using the built-in Mail apps on Windows 8.1 and 10, users are instructed to apply the patch KB3093594 . A few points to note: The change means that migrated accounts can no longer be synchronized using the old DeltaSync protocol. To synchronize these accounts, users can set up the account again to use IMAP . This will enable mail messages and folders to synchronize, but not the calendar and contacts. The patch enables support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to be used instead of DeltaSync in Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (see System requirements on the download page). Mail synchronization errors can often be cleared by removing the account, closing down the program and waiting a few minutes, then re-launching it and adding the account back again. We don't know what is going to happen with Windows Live Mail 2009 on XP and 2011 on Vista. It is clear that users will no longer be able to sign in with a migrated account to synchronize contacts and calendar, and they won't be able to synchronize mail messages and folders using DeltaSync. Whether the programs will continue to work in other respects (e.g. as a POP3, IMAP and NNTP client) remains to be seen. Apart from this question of synchronizing mail, calendars and contacts with a Microsoft Email account, there is no change now or in the foreseeable future for Windows Live Mail 2012. Mail accounts configured to use POP3 or IMAP will continue to work as before, the default calendar and contacts lists will still be available and the other functions - RSS feeds and newsgroups - continue as before. Because of the many problems that update KB3093594 caused for some users, it has been re-released, now at version 5.0 dated 23 December 2015. The revised KB includes this text under More information : Known issues about this update<ul> <li>Issue 1: After you install this update (that was released before December 17, 2015), you may find that the program crashes soon after start. Boy has microsoft screwed up again. The built in e-mail app will not work on a lot of e-mail accounts (tells me mine doesn't exist) then screws up the one that did work before Windows 10 after taking away the really good one that was in Microsoft office. And if you don't use their email system you can't even get into this system. Almost time to start deleting the use of computers. Google got too big for its britches and now so has Microsoft,

This makes a lot of stuff more clear but 2 questions after reading all the referenced articles: Contacts syncing will stop completly for windows live mail 2012 even with this patch? Calender syncing will stop completly for windows live mail 2012 even with this patch? 3)The naming of the IMAP folder will result in <Inbox-in WLM2012 display language> Sent Deleted Junk The last 3 will always be shown in english?

WHERE IS MICROSOFT IN THIS THREAD? I am sincerely concerned about doing ANYTHING because there are too many questions. If I update WLMail 12, will I still be able to get POP mail from cox, time warner, my own website, gmail, Hotmail and outlook? Will all my email folders for saved mails be retained? Will my contacts and calendar sync? I just want to keep doing what has worked for a few years. The thing that made me go with Windows Phone and Windows Computer...everything works together.

I think you'll find that it makes no difference what that box contains. This account works flawlessly:

The program works out for itself which server to connect to, depending on the email address.

WHERE IS MICROSOFT IN THIS THREAD?

I am sincerely concerned about doing ANYTHING because there are too many questions.

If I update WLMail 12, will I still be able to get POP mail from cox, time warner, my own website, gmail, Hotmail and outlook? Will all my email folders for saved mails be retained? Will my contacts and calendar sync?

I just want to keep doing what has worked for a few years. The thing that made me go with Windows Phone and Windows Computer...everything works together.
