Many users of Windows Live Mail 2012 have received an email under this heading from the Outlook Team advising them of the changes that are taking place at Outlook.com as accounts are migrated to the same platform as that used by Office 365. Apart from advice to switch to using the built-in Mail apps on Windows 8.1 and 10, users are instructed to apply the patch KB3093594. A few points to note:

  1. The change means that migrated accounts can no longer be synchronized using the old DeltaSync protocol. To synchronize these accounts, users can set up the account again to use IMAP. This will enable mail messages and folders to synchronize, but not the calendar and contacts.
  2. The patch enables support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to be used instead of DeltaSync in Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (see System requirements on the download page).
  3. Mail synchronization errors can often be cleared by removing the account, closing down the program and waiting a few minutes, then re-launching it and adding the account back again.
  4. We don't know what is going to happen with Windows Live Mail 2009 on XP and 2011 on Vista. It is clear that users will no longer be able to sign in with a migrated account to synchronize contacts and calendar, and they won't be able to synchronize mail messages and folders using DeltaSync. Whether the programs will continue to work in other respects (e.g. as a POP3, IMAP and NNTP client) remains to be seen.
  5. Apart from this question of synchronizing mail, calendars and contacts with a Microsoft Email account, there is no change now or in the foreseeable future for Windows Live Mail 2012. Mail accounts configured to use POP3 or IMAP will continue to work as before, the default calendar and contacts lists will still be available and the other functions - RSS feeds and newsgroups - continue as before.

I had updated both computers to Windows 10.

The initial MS update created the sync error.

    Sync error?

The initial update (16.4.3563.0918) wasn't supported on Windows 10, probably because it caused the program to crash for those who signed in. The revised update is still (according to the download page) only for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.

Solution: ... I uninstalled and reinstalled WLM.

This will have removed the patch, reverting to the version of the program you had before applying the update. This would hopefully also remove any ill-effects of the update as regards program performance.

I did destroy my local calendar because I did not know that signing in with Outlook meant changing from the local calendar.

It has been the case for a long time that any data in the default calendar (the one you see when not signed in) is transferred to the account calendar the first time you sign in.

Are the calendar events that used to be in the default calendar not in the calendar if you sign in?

Did you sign in the first time after applying the update but before re-installing the program? Or was it first after re-installing?

I'm keen to find out what happened to your default calendar, because it's a serious defect if its events are lost in connection with the update procedure.

I'm not an expert so ignore suggestions if you wish.  I had sync issues and could not follow all the suggestions for fixing.

    Background:

I had updated both computers to Windows 10.

    I had local calendar.

I had POP (Verizon) and IMAP (Gmail), and Outlook (whatever it was) mail accounts under WLM.

The initial MS update created the sync error.

    Solution (that I eventually used):

After trying to delete from WLM and add the mail accounts back into WLM with no success, I uninstalled and reinstalled WLM.

This solved the sync problem for me (I think).

I haven't checked the web mails recently but have done a simple test sending emails between each of my 3 accounts that all synced.

I did destroy my local calendar because I did not know that signing in with Outlook meant changing from the local calendar.

Sure would be nice if developers would add a brief description of what an answer means.  I did not assume that everyone was a savvy user in the 45 years I was a software developer....yes, I'm old!

The most recent update you sent out via "updates" for Live Email killed my account sync. I checked emails on line using the web view and see emails that ARE NOT arriving in my accounts in LIVE EMAIL. The most recent update for LIVE Mail has not corrected any issues, and my mail is not syncing nor is it arriving in my LIVE EMAIL account. Does MS plan on fixing this? I have a Dell with Windows 7. It is suppose to work for W7, and your update makes matters worse. Now how do I get rid of the update?

Sorry about the SWR Provider. I worked 45 years in the computer industry. It was a common acronym.

Regarding the oldest Email. It just will not sync unless POP3 is used.

I don't fight success. I'm staying with the two different profiles.

I have two email accounts on outlook.com. The oldest one will only work using pop3

the newest one must be profiled using IMAP-Mail, other wise it will not sync with the server.

The oldest one will not work with IMAP-Mail.

I don't think the age of the account has any bearing on the matter. All accounts with a mailbox at mail.live.com are provisioned for IMAP as far as I'm aware. What happens when you try to connect to it using IMAP? The error message you see should provide clues to what's wrong.

    SWR provide = Software provider.

Thank you - I've not come across that abbreviation before.
