Many users of Windows Live Mail 2012 have received an email under this heading from the Outlook Team advising them of the changes that are taking place at Outlook.com as accounts are migrated to the same platform as that used by Office 365. A few points to note: The change means that migrated accounts can no longer be synchronized using the old DeltaSync protocol. To synchronize these accounts, users can set up the account again to use IMAP . This will enable mail messages and folders to synchronize, but not the calendar and contacts. The patch enables support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to be used instead of DeltaSync in Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (see System requirements on the download page). Mail synchronization errors can often be cleared by removing the account, closing down the program and waiting a few minutes, then re-launching it and adding the account back again. We don't know what is going to happen with Windows Live Mail 2009 on XP and 2011 on Vista. It is clear that users will no longer be able to sign in with a migrated account to synchronize contacts and calendar, and they won't be able to synchronize mail messages and folders using DeltaSync. Whether the programs will continue to work in other respects (e.g. as a POP3, IMAP and NNTP client) remains to be seen. Apart from this question of synchronizing mail, calendars and contacts with a Microsoft Email account, there is no change now or in the foreseeable future for Windows Live Mail 2012. I have found another viable alternative to Thunderbird and full blown Outlook to replace Windows Live Mail 2012 and it is eM Client. It is not free like Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail 2012 but it does sync the calendar and contacts on outlook.com/hotmail accounts. Microsoft needs a lightweight e-mail client like Windows Live Mail for the traditional Windows Desktop as the "universal" Mail and Calendar applications from the Windows Store are terrible and leave a lot to be desired.

Dear Rainer Meier , 100% agree with your comment , I do most of the time some IT help for the older people in the family , neighbours ,... 1)They find the windows 10 Mail app horrific compared to WLM 2012, ridicules big headers, contact integration,calender integration ,... just horrible The only program that doesn't work after the windows 10 update ("forced") for them is windows live mail 2012,this resulted in elderly people with no clue how to contact people, just one sad experience overall,... For some I just repaired 2012 with IMAP settings, for others a desktop link to the online inbox. Which is not a ideal situation because some like you stated do read their mail offline which makes Thunderbird a alternative solution. Just one side note , Google did something similar with Picasa recently , even removed the installer offline ("dick move")and only stating they should use Google Photos. Which does not even have a desktop application. Conclusion Microsoft,Google,... sometimes they are so clueless and turn back in time with their services. As there is no update available for WLM 2012 tehy of course recommend to use the Windows Mail App which of course also requires users to upgrade to Windows 10 as it's not available within Windows 7. Of course in the mailing Microsoft just talks about the mail app which is integrated into Windows 8.1 and 10. Windows 7 users (btw. the OS is still supported!) are not even addressed. I have been using Windows Live Essentials - which includes WLM since 2009, and upgraded to Windows 10 last summer. WLM 2012 worked seamlessly until I applied "that update" in December, then my calendar stopped syncing altogether making WLM 2012 unusable. I found out you cannot undo the update, so performed a system restore which corrected the issue. Since then WLM 2012 has been working perfectly with Windows 10. I will NOT be applying anymore updates to do with Windows Live Essentials 2012. The answer to your question is yes, Windows Live Mail 2012 works correctly with Windows 10. I also have a Windows Phone 8.1, and yes I regularly sync information between my phone and my Windows 10 computer. I have been following these posts since the email arrived on December 11th. I am currently on Windows 8.1 with WLM/Live Essentials 2012. I have been reluctant to upgrade to Windows 10 because of this issue, wanting to continue without issues using Live Essentials/WLM. Is everything okay, everyone using WLM on Windows 10, calendar and contacts sinking between devices? I have a Windows 8.1 phone, so want to keep information syncing between them, even if I upgrade to Windows 10 on just my laptop and PC.

It is not free like Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail 2012 but it does sync the calendar and contacts on outlook.com/hotmail accounts.

For some I just repaired 2012 with IMAP settings, for others a desktop link to the online inbox. Which is not a ideal situation because some like you stated do read their mail offline which makes Thunderbird a alternative solution.

The answer to your question is yes, Windows Live Mail 2012 works correctly with Windows 10.
