Many users of Windows Live Mail 2012 have received an email under this heading from the Outlook Team advising them of the changes that are taking place at Outlook.com as accounts are migrated to the same platform as that used by Office 365. Apart from advice to switch to using the built-in Mail apps on Windows 8.1 and 10, users are instructed to apply the patch KB3093594. A few points to note:

  1. The change means that migrated accounts can no longer be synchronized using the old DeltaSync protocol. To synchronize these accounts, users can set up the account again to use IMAP. This will enable mail messages and folders to synchronize, but not the calendar and contacts.
  2. The patch enables support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to be used instead of DeltaSync in Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (see System requirements on the download page).
  3. Mail synchronization errors can often be cleared by removing the account, closing down the program and waiting a few minutes, then re-launching it and adding the account back again.
  4. We don't know what is going to happen with Windows Live Mail 2009 on XP and 2011 on Vista. It is clear that users will no longer be able to sign in with a migrated account to synchronize contacts and calendar, and they won't be able to synchronize mail messages and folders using DeltaSync. Whether the programs will continue to work in other respects (e.g. as a POP3, IMAP and NNTP client) remains to be seen.
  5. Apart from this question of synchronizing mail, calendars and contacts with a Microsoft Email account, there is no change now or in the foreseeable future for Windows Live Mail 2012. Mail accounts configured to use POP3 or IMAP will continue to work as before, the default calendar and contacts lists will still be available and the other functions - RSS feeds and newsgroups - continue as before.

    When you notify user to install that KB, make sure you tell them to refresh their server setup w/ the latest IMAP/SMTP settings as well. Many are still using the old SYNC mechanism unaware of their settings are outdated and no longer work w/ this KB.

    This is my problem: I installed the KB and it stopped sending and receiving from Hotmail; tried the community, then got a response from the Microsoft Community saying that the KB was re-updated, and to install that; once done, it still will not receive or let me see any emails in it's Inbox.

    I think that you are on the right track and I need to refresh the server setup with the latest settings, BUT... HOW DO I DO THIS??

    Experience!!

    Exchange Active Sync never got set after the d-mail .msp update. I moved all messages out of my default outlook account  and then deleted the account . Then I re-added the account. I was able to sync then with the mail severer. However the next day I was under able to sync with the server again. It seems like too many inbox messages are a problem.

    I have an alternate  backup account outlook and it always syncs with the mail server for one or two messages.

    Any ideas why larger number of message fails to sync??

    I've got the problem of unknown sender banner using Windows Mail 2012 after the KB3093594 update and it only happens to domain/email address hotmail.com and live.it. Before the update all was working fine. The issue doesn't happen to my other domains/email addresses (gmail.com, alice.it, poste.it). If i clik allow the banner disappears, but the next time with the same sender it is here again. Obviously the sender is present in my address book. My PC is running Windows 7 SP1 full updated.

    The new KB3093594 update (12.16.2015) of the previous KB3093594 update (12.12.2015) NOT solved the unknown sender banner in Live Mail 2012. Really frustrating...

    I worked as a software designer and programmer for 45 years with IBM and Lockheed Martin.  If we had written software like MS and instructions as difficult to understand as what to do to use WLM and sync email between WLM and the web email tools, we would never have succeeded in launching satellites and building the GPS system.  Is there any where that has a list of instructions that someone who has lost their calendar and can no longer move messages from WLM email accounts (e.g. Gmail) into folders that were defined in Outlook and worked fine until Dec16, 2015 can go to try to fix this mess.

    I'm seeing sync errors in Outlook but have spent most of the last 5 days trying to figure out how to fix and haven't even checked to see if WLM and Gmail accounts are syncing.

    May the Focreated this messrce find and destroy whoever

    I also have a custom folder and a custom e-mail but they seam to sync ok with IMAP. But there are some options you can check.

    if shown in WLM 2012 , right click the folder called "work" -> synchronisation settings -> be sure it is checked on to sync all.

    OR

    not shown at all in WLM 2012:

    right click on your account 

    -show/hide maps 

    you will see a list of maps on the imap server , be sure work isn't hidden.

    For the rest I have no clue , sadly and it is wait and see what microsoft is doing on their side.
