Many users of Windows Live Mail 2012 have received an email under this heading from the Outlook Team advising them of the changes that are taking place at Outlook.com as accounts are migrated to the same platform as that used by Office 365. Apart from advice to switch to using the built-in Mail apps on Windows 8.1 and 10, users are instructed to apply the patch KB3093594 . A few points to note: The change means that migrated accounts can no longer be synchronized using the old DeltaSync protocol. To synchronize these accounts, users can set up the account again to use IMAP . This will enable mail messages and folders to synchronize, but not the calendar and contacts. The patch enables support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to be used instead of DeltaSync in Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (see System requirements on the download page). Mail synchronization errors can often be cleared by removing the account, closing down the program and waiting a few minutes, then re-launching it and adding the account back again. We don't know what is going to happen with Windows Live Mail 2009 on XP and 2011 on Vista. I don't mind them upgrading old software, but it is quite offensive to take away Contact Groups, ability to mark email as junk, adding contacts to the address book from an email message and a lot of the things we took for granted with WinLiveMail. I keep hoping future updates to Mail App would at LEAST give us Contact Groups back, but Lucy keeps pulling that football away. Here is link explaining WinLiveMails demise... I can report that I've not received any email about Windows Live Mail 2012 ceasing to work correctly after June 2016 - so far that is! I use Windows 10 Desktop along with the Windows Live Essentials 2012 package. My WLM 2012 has two accounts attached to it, a POP3 account and Outlook.com account. Both work absolutely fine at the time of writing this, and all calendars sync correctly. I choose not to use the built-in Windows 10 Mail app, as it looks very poor substitute for WLM 2012. The "top brass" at Microsoft really need to stop meddling with the things that we know and love. People, all of you, I have identified a MAJOR problem with Hotmail and WLM which may require your immediate attention. I am running the pre-update version of WLM, and I recently attempted to re-set my hotmail account up in it using IMAP for the expected termination later this month of airsync. As such, I noticed hundreds of emails missing from various folders in the new imap hotmail account. Upon checking the server at outlook.com, the emails are missing there, too. Basically, I have hundreds of important email messages in my airsync hotmail account on WLM that are not being synnchronized to the outlook.com (hotmail) servers!! This is another major data loss in addition to the missing calendar entry problem I had a few months ago. Microsoft has basically majorly screwed up the hotmail system royally for WLM users. Emails are missing from the servers. EMAILS ARE F*****G MISSING FROM THE SERVERS! Any data loss is a HUGE HUGE issue. I strongly suggest you all immediately manually backup your Hotmail emails from the WLM folders before you lose your emails forever. I've switched to Gmail for calendar, and now I am switching to Gmail for everything. This entire fiasco is sad, disgusting and pathetic for Microsoft in too many ways to count. -J

I agree that this is a slap in the face for Windows Live Mail users. My only complaint about the new apps is still the lack of Contact Groups in the new Mail app, and that is a big huge deal for most of my customers. But moving them over to Google services might be good retribution for you, but all your really doing to them is putting them on the Gmail website. At that point you may as well put them on @outlook.com website as it has been greatly improved with the new version. Better still would be its integration with the Outlook Mail client; as it supports sync of contacts, mail, and calendar AND groups, Google makes you pay for that privilege when used in conjunction with the Outlook Mail client in Office. I hear a lot of complaints about Windows 10 mostly from people that don't like change. The vast majority, hundreds of upgrades that I have done have gone smooth. Its sad that Microsoft did not do a better job of putting things back where they were for people, the home page, and favorites, and favorites bar should have been put right back where they were. Also they made a mess of the Start Screen. But those are pretty minor points overall. Windows 10 has shaved dozens of hours off of my workload as a technician per month. I try to push my customers forward into the future, instead of holding them back. Unfortunately Windows 8 was a stain on that methodology, but Windows 10 has been great in comparison. Shame on Microsoft for not including the very basic contact groups feature, and maybe it is coming with an update, but that is an almost unforgiveable omission at this stage of the game. I don't blame anyone for being very angry and considering the move as punishment. JF
