So, in research for a BHO remover for another poster here, I downloaded & ran Malwarebyte's JRT - just to see what it might offer. I thought I'd trust them. I do gratefully use their Anti-virus scanner on demand to supplement Defender, after all. And I've sworn to pay up should it ever catch a thing Defender missed.

To my shock, JRT found stuff & just went ahead & deleted them - w/o asking permission! Either it - or Windows - did make a restore point, however. Who can analyze this report & help decide whether I should revert? My own rerearch...

(1) PCDoctor appears to be part of Dell. But it won't be long before I attack lots of Dell stuff in here.

(2) That searchscopes entry was part of McAfee (I think), called Secure Search...

...but I've uninstalled McAfee. Now, Secure Search is gone, & BING is the default. (Honestly, I'm not sure it was actually still working.)

(3) The folder "pc drivers headquarters" was part of Driver Detective, which I did once try when still Win 8.1. It said it wanted to replace two - but I never pursued that.

I think I've talked myself into keeping the deletions - but does anyone disagree? Here's the report...

    At your Inspiron 3847 Desktop site, I see...

    Dell Customer Connect                       Not at site (my version is 1.3.28.0 - ha!)

    Dell Digital Delivery:         3.1.1002.0   Site is lower

    Dell Help & Support:        2.1.59.0       Same at site (you took it earlier in this thread)

    Dell Support Assist:                             Not at site (we've got same version)

    Dell Support Assist Agent:                  Not at site (we've got same version)

    Dell System Detect                              This one downloads when we click "Detect Drivers". I uninstall it afterwards.

    Dell Update Application:  1.8.1114.0   Site is higher. Also, v.1.7.1007.0 is there, under "Other versions".

    So, of those, there is no test for Dell Update - except to see whether it will update itself. I don't quite understand how/why the version you've currently got (1.7.1015.0) isn't there as a previous version. My earlier guess was that Dell Update updates itself from a different site. It could also be that Windows Update brought that one in (before you turned the feature off). If so, you'd have to turn it back on to get your current version back - if you uninstall it for 1.8.1114.0 & not like the change.

    I was wondering about that. Very good that you already knew of System Restore.

    OK, did you see that the Dell Update Application at the site is a much higher version when you click "Find it myself"? And it's higher than the version you've currently got. That's an odd thing I kept meaning to mention. So, you needn't fear deleting the one you've currently got.

    Post the rest of your Dell versions showing in Programs & Features, so we'll be able to see how well Dell Update is doing. That would be mainly Intel & Realtek, like mine...

    I have no restore point for that time because I guess it is only set up for so many restore points....and then will delete older ones.  I don't recall going to drivers and downloads.  As you will see I did a restore point right before running JRT.  Then right after I did that, it ran a restore point too.  That is why you see it listed so close together.

    That's the same version my site has for me, & it is lesser than the one I uninstalled. No version has returned on its own. I wasn't sure how it got in here in the first place. Now - looking at old notes I made during my first round at Drivers & Downloads (when I was Win 8.1) - I see I did take Dell Update Application, v.1.3.9000.0. Subsequently, it self-updated all the way to v.1.7.1007.0 before I uninstalled it. I guess it updates itself from a separate Dell site.

    I can't swear to it, but I think - should you uninstall Dell Update & later want it back - you'd take the lesser version from your site & let it self-update.

    I see the installed date of yours in Programs & Features is 1/14/16. You have no restore point of that date to examine. Stuff that didn't come pre-loaded, like CCleaner, were installed a day later. So, I think you probably had the computer (bought in January, you said) before 1/14/16. Therefore, it has self-updated at least once whether you downloaded it or it was pre-loaded - but I can't tell which. Do you recall going to Drivers & Downloads on or before that date?

    Now, I've gone to both our sites, & I see...

    I think you should uninstall the one you've got. Then, install this one, if you still want it.

    Note: You have to click "Find it myself" to get to that version. Also, it's best to enter your service tag located on a sticker under your computer. (If you click "Guide me", & then "Learn more" - the lesser version is shown.)
