Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) by Malwarebytes

So, in research for a BHO remover for another poster here, I downloaded & ran Malwarebyte's JRT - just to see what it might offer. I thought I'd trust them. I do gratefully use their Anti-virus scanner on demand to supplement Defender, after all. And I've sworn to pay up should it ever catch a thing Defender missed.

To my shock, JRT found stuff & just went ahead & deleted them - w/o asking permission! Either it - or Windows - did make a restore point, however. Who can analyze this report & help decide whether I should revert? My own rerearch...

(1) PCDoctor appears to be part of Dell. But it won't be long before I attack lots of Dell stuff in here.

(2) That searchscopes entry was part of McAfee (I think), called Secure Search...

...but I've uninstalled McAfee. Now, Secure Search is gone, & BING is the default. (Honestly, I'm not sure it was actually still working.)

(3) The folder "pc drivers headquarters" was part of Driver Detective, which I did once try when still Win 8.1. It said it wanted to replace two - but I never pursued that.

I think I've talked myself into keeping the deletions - but does anyone disagree? Here's the report...

Hmm. The worst that ever happened to me along those lines was one of them complained "unknown publisher" - but it installed fine & clearly was by Dell.

~~(1) Are you sure you were set for Win 10 drivers at the site, & did you click "view details" & see it did mention Win 10 as in my picture?~~

(2) How did you reinstall your previous version of Dell Update?

Dell Update shows version 1.7.1015.0 in your earlier picture of Programs & Features (P&F), but I only see 1.8.1114.0 & 1.7.1007.0 available at your site.

(3) What version shows up in P&F now?

(4) When you boot your computer now, does the Dell Update icon show up in your Tray (right side of Taskbar), & does it state it is checking for updates & declare you are up-to-date?

Depending on your answer to these questions, we might decide to let things alone regarding Dell Update. I've sworn I won't take it back into this computer, not even just to see what happens. I know you are Win 10 version 1511, because update 3135173 shows up in your Installed Updates. I am still Win 10 build 10240. But I don't know whether that is making a difference.

...So, I clicked "delete", & it was not downloaded. I guess we need to forget that one. Or, contact Dell. You're computer is new enough not to incur a charge.

Edit 3/9/16 9:26 PM: To be accurate, the download did occur. After clicking "delete", it ended up in the Recycle Bin.

I did go to the find it myself tab. It would not run that file, as I said.

I think you're looking at the wrong one. As I explained on the bottom of page 6 of this thread...

Note: You have to click "Find it myself" to get to that version. Also, it's best to enter your service tag located on a sticker under your computer. (If you click "Guide me", & then "Learn more" - the lesser version is shown.)

(If you leave it at the "Guide me" tab - you get an ancient version of Dell Update, looks like. That might be good for folk with ancient computers, but it's a bug-a-boo for us.)

ALSO, ensure you are set at Win 10 drivers...

It doesn't say WIN10. Maybe that is why the screen goes to white if you click it. Maybe they have Microsoft do the updates for them.

You have been such a big help. Thank you. PCR, I do appreciate you going the extra mile here. :-)

I decided to try it before the storm got here. When I download that file, it says the signature of this file is corrupt or invalid. I tried it twice. Maybe I should restart and try again?

I restarted and tried it again, still getting corrupt or invalid file. Strange. Maybe that version only works with other versions of Dell stuff up to date too?

I downloaded the version I had before. That one installed. It then went to a white screen. It shows me if my system is up to date, and when the last scan, and next scan is though.
