Disabling Windows Compatability Telemetry

Please pleas please don't tell people to disable updates! It's a horrible idea and you wil notremember to update manually. Yes this is crazy annoying but your choices are deal with it, use hacks to disable it every other week, switch OS, or disable updates and get pwnd https://www.troyhunt.com/dont-tell-people-to-turn-off-windows-update-just-dont/. I chose to switch to Linux.

I did figure it out.  The root cause of the problem is that the disk is thrashing due to paging i.e. swapping and an IO intensive application CompatTelRunner.exe.  My one terabyte disk was 2/3 used up.  I have a lot of software installed on this laptop.  The laptop had only 8 gigabytes of ram.  

Telemetry starts at 7:00 PM when I am typically playing an online game such as World Of Warships.  The game has a memory commit size of 1.2 gigabytes before beginning a battle; remember I only have 8 gigabytes of memory.    Each battle involves downloading a huge amount of data before it can start.  The memory commit size is 1.9 gigabytes once a battle begins and the commit size is even .  My system starts paging when a battle starts.  This means it needs fast access to the disk.

Along comes CompatTelRunner.exe, which starts with a small working set that continuously increases while it runs but does thousands and thousands of disk reads and millions and millions of I/O other.  Procexp64 shows the IO other is caused by 2000 page faults per second!  Ah ha, Microsoft is could be opening a memory mapped file and reading from it.  A page fault occurs every time they read outside of the sliding window.   OR it is possible that they are reading through shared memory or even memory in other processes using a driver of some kind.  Whatever it is the combination of the game and CompatTelRunner.exe page faults is a nogo.  My system is unable to allocate enough virtual memory fast enough for me to enter a battle and my team ends up playing a man short because Microsoft is over using the virtual memory system with their malware.

So I bought more memory and installed it on my laptop so that Microsoft's malware will not ruin my gaming experience.  This fixed the problem.  I would like Microsoft to pay for the upgrade.

I am sorry, why can't we as users, demand that MS allow us to disable the process? We should be able to get a million or so people using Windows'10 to insist.  Organize and resist?
