Disabling Windows Compatability Telemetry

I found a surefire way to get ride of Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry, and you can fully delete it.

1. Go to C:\Windows\System32 where you will find compattelrunner.exe.
2. Right-click on it and select properties.
3. Go to the security tab.
4. Near the bottom, you will see a button that says 'Advanced'. Click it.
5. On the top of the new window that pops up, you will see 'name' and 'owner'.
6. Next to owner, you will see 'TrustedInstaller'. Press 'change' right next to that.
7. In the text box that says 'enter the object name to select (examples):', enter the email address that you sign into your computer with.
8. Press 'check names' to the right, and you should see your full name pop up next to the email address you entered.
9. Press 'ok', then press 'ok' to all the other windows we opened.
10. Right-click on compattelrunner.exe again, press Properties, go to the security tab and press Edit.
11. Select Administrators and check 'Full control'. Do the same for Users. Click ok, and ok again.
12. Lastly, right-click on compattelrunner one more time and press delete. You can keep it in your recycle bin if you wanna be cautious or delete from there, like I did.
13. That's it, you have now gotten rid of Microsoft's malware ;)

Huh, man you think I haven't tried that? I did but after reboot or whatsoever I'M UNABLE TO "CHECK" THE "SHOW  HIDDEN FILES" , "SHOW SYSTEM FILES" etc in explorer .I mean: if I check it and click ok, everything reverts back and only ordinary (not hidden not system) files/forders can be displayed( . Well.. I'm not 100% sure deletion of compatTelRunner was the cause , will try again but stay aware of this possible bug..

That's weird. I'll report back if I'm also having this issue. If I am, means it is indeed caused by the deletion of compattelrunner. However, I doubt it's the case because the file only deals with telemetry collection.

Oh, I just remembered now, I then put the file back and renamed it into compatTelRuunner_.exe , and since then I never had the described problem. Not sure if the problem had been connected to the compatTelRunner deletion but I prefer to keep it there, but renamed

Good idea, but if you do this an update will probably recreate it. The right way to do it is to replace step 11-13 with denying all permissions (including execute) to every user, especially the system users (I can't remember the exact names and I am in Linux right now so I can't check). now the system can't run it, and the file is still there so it can't be recreated. This same method can be used to prevent forced Windows Update restarts.
