Disabling Windows Compatability Telemetry

The simple fact that Microsoft don't participate in this discussion is proof that they don't care.

Yet another Vice President earning big bucks for not listening to his/her customers?

The settings indicate that I have opted out of the Customer User Experience, but that Telemetry tool just renders my PC useless until I kill the task.  I feel as though Microsoft have forgotten that some users don't have a i7 running 24/7.  It is a similar problem with McAfee, in my expereince.  I turn my PC on because I want to use it, and I'm completely frozen out.  What a terrible user experience: "I want to be able to use my Personal Computer, but it doesn't want to serve me.  Just 20% of it's capacity would let me be able to carry on.  Is that too much to ask?"  I hope Microsoft is listening, because I'm sure my agravation isn't being logged in the stream of usage data, but I feel like my voice will be lost in the gale.

the best of all is that Windows runs that software supposedly to let MS know about the user experience with the OS.

What an irony.

Avoid disabling CompatTelRunner except as a temporary measure to improve performance. It can be temporarily stopped through the task manager. It will restart when accessing a network.

My experience, the Compatelrunner will hog disk time and affect performance (jerking mouse motion, stalled programs) after installing a major update or just before an important update.

The computer will run normally again after several hours or longer when the program and virus scanner completes their inventory processes.  

So, this is what you're suggesting?! To just let it do its thing until my "computer will run normally again after several hours"?!? What a shameless reply. And it's as close as it gets to admitting MS is running malicious software. Maybe it really *is* time for a Class Action suit. At the very least I shall start documenting your posts.

Are you saying that none of those four ways will disable the telemetry? And if they do disable it, just don't download any of the programs they offer. Very simple.

Indeed, for me the mentioned solutions mentioned didn't work, the article doesn't add any other solutions than already found in this thread. Its primary goal is to trick users into installing that tool that AFAIC should be categorized as malicious adware (I didn't try that one of course).

For me the only option was to install Process Blocker, but the article obviously failed to mention that possible solution because it would probably reduce their downloads. https://www.processblocker.com/
