Location is greyed out, i cannot remove internet explorer 11 addon after virus removal

That's what I thought, that these are left-overs of the virus removal. I'm willing to instruct her through a look at the registry. If these add-on fragments are as simple as my Google add-on, she can easily be rid of them. Feel free to stop me if you've got a bleepingcomputer guy at hand.

MariaChunle -- the steps may appear daunting, but they are not. You do need to be careful though as editing the registry incorrectly can cause the PC to become unstable or even unusable -- rare, but it can happen. In that case, you're looking at a recovery to get back into Windows.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'll be as careful as possible, beginning with instructions for her on how to use the Snipping Tool - just so I can see what I'm doing!

To do these things, it may be best for you to have the Snipping Tool (to post pictures), so I can judge whether it will be as simple dealing with the virus bits.

To get the Snipping Tool...

(1) Click START, All Apps, Windows Accessories.

(2) R-Clk the Snipping Tool, & select Pin To Taskbar.

     It will appear in the Taskbar as a scissors icon.

To save a snip...

(1) Click the Snipping Tool in the Taskbar, then its New button.

(2) Outline the portion of the screen you wish to snip.

(3) Click the Disk icon to save the snip.

     It will save to "Capture.PNG".

To post the snip...

(1) Click the Insert Image icon above your post...

(2) Click the Browse button, then select "Capture.PNG".

(3) Finally, click the Upload button.

     It will appear in the post.

I don't know about the location button. I much doubt that is connected with add-ons. I'll look into it.

But the add-ons - if they are as simple as the Google add-on - I think they can be removed easily from the registry. When you open them in Manage Add-ons, do you see their search address? Here is what I get when I do a find in my registry for "http://www.google.com/search?q=" (that's enough of it to be unique)...

...See that dark number at the top left - {96DD31BE, etc.? After deleting it (which gets rid of the R-pane too), Manage Add-ons now reports...

...Google is gone. Want a talk through? Careful not to willy-nilly do as you please in the registry, though. It can harm the computer.

I would like a walk through.... Id be very careful... Hope I don't do anything I'm not supposed to. I would really appreciate a very step by step walk through.
