You are a hero!! I just bought a new Asus to finally play some old games with (this being the centrepiece) and this worked like a charm on Win 10!

Additionally, I had to right-click and go into properties and compatibility and set to Windows Vista. For some reason, XP wouldn't run it, but I managed to get it running AND play against my husband (despite repeated "time out" notices on our very fast home network). It seems like persistence is the only way to get a two-player game going but it's been two years since I've played, and since we played each other. I'm so thrilled. Thank you!!

I know it's been a while since this was posted, but I was just trying to fix my BFME and couldn't get anything to work, even the options.ini until I found something. When you save the options.ini that you create, it actually saves as a text file, not an ini file, but it won't show you the file extension normally.

Type in "folder options" into your cortana search bar and click "File Explorer Options". In the "view" tab, deselect "hide extensions for known file types". Now check your options.ini file again. It should say "options.ini.txt". Rename the file and delete the .txt. It will ask you if you are sure, say yes. Then launch the game.

For reference, I watched this video. I used the lines from above, however, only adding the .000000 at the end of the volume values and such.

This worked for me, hope it works for you too.

DO you thing that the makers of Lord of The Rings games will possibly remake them so they are more updated and compatible? I think all die hard fans are waiting for a game that is similar to the one we all love but is updated with more options, and sticks to books and movies themes like the originals did so well.

This is my problem, it insists that it cannot locate the CD, to the point where I bought a new disk. send help because this is infuriating and every fix about compatibility, or .ini files just isn't working.
