I am using Windows 8.1. I cannot figure out the difference between Sent Items and Sent Mail. When I send an email sometimes it ends up in Sent Items and sometimes it ends up in Sent Mail. What is the difference? This is very confusing! Thanks.

The SentMail folder is one being supplied by your mail server.  I suspect you are using an IMAP account.  It doesn't appear you are using Outlook.com for your mail service.  Thus, your post is off-topic for the Outlook.com forum.  I have moved it to the Windows Live Mail forum on "Files, Folders, and Online Storage" where it is on-topic.

Right-click the account in the folder pane and choose Properties.  On the IMAP tab you can control the mapping of folders so that WLM will use the correct folder for saving the sent messages.

Well, my webmail uses BOTH IMAP and STMP. Does that matter? See below:

What you show is not web mail.  Web mail , by definition, is a mailbox you access with a web browser.  Windows Live Mail is not a web browser and, hence, mail you see in it is not web mail.

Mail clients must have both an incoming server and an outgoing server.  An incoming server provides mail that comes from your mailbox to you when you're receiving mail.  An outgoing server transmits the mail you send to a message transport server that passes it on to the final destination.  Incoming servers use POP or IMAP protocols to transmit mail from your mailbox at Charter to Windows Live Mail on your computer.  Windows Live Mail uses the SMTP protocol to transmit messages from your PC to the Charter server.  This is how all mail clients work, in general.

The boxed Deleted Items is a popup that appeared because the mouse cursor was over the Deleted Items folder name.  The cursor will not show in a screenshot.

Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Junk E-mail, and Deleted Items are all Windows Live Mail default folders.  They will be used by Windows Live Mail and cannot be deleted from Windows Live Mail.  You may be able to delete the folders in webmail, but it is not a good idea.

If you make the changes to the special IMAP folders on the IMAP tab, you can have the Sent and Trash folders not appear in Windows Live Mail.

Maybe you can just delete the folders in Windows Live Mail you don't want, or is this too simple?

Teddy G. One thing I have learned from your screenshot is that WindowsLiveMail folders are can be manipulated. Obviously you do not have the same ones I have!
