I am using Windows 8.1. I cannot figure out the difference between Sent Items and Sent Mail. When I send an email sometimes it ends up in Sent Items and sometimes it ends up in Sent Mail. What is the difference? This is very confusing! Thanks.

The SentMail folder is one being supplied by your mail server.  I suspect you are using an IMAP account.  It doesn't appear you are using Outlook.com for your mail service.  Thus, your post is off-topic for the Outlook.com forum.  I have moved it to the Windows Live Mail forum on "Files, Folders, and Online Storage" where it is on-topic.

Right-click the account in the folder pane and choose Properties.  On the IMAP tab you can control the mapping of folders so that WLM will use the correct folder for saving the sent messages.

The boxed Deleted Items is a popup that appeared because the mouse cursor was over the Deleted Items folder name.  The cursor will not show in a screenshot.

Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Junk E-mail, and Deleted Items are all Windows Live Mail default folders.  They will be used by Windows Live Mail and cannot be deleted from Windows Live Mail.  You may be able to delete the folders in webmail, but it is not a good idea.

If you make the changes to the special IMAP folders on the IMAP tab, you can have the Sent and Trash folders not appear in Windows Live Mail.

Maybe you can just delete the folders in Windows Live Mail you don't want, or is this too simple?

Teddy G. One thing I have learned from your screenshot is that WindowsLiveMail folders are can be manipulated. Obviously you do not have the same ones I have!

IMAP accounts will always show you the folders that the server provides.  You cannot get rid of Drafts of Junk E-mail or other default folders.

In your example, you should map Deleted Items and Trash to each other and Sent Items and Sent to each other so that the client (WLM) and the server agree on the folder.  Do this by right-clicking your mail account, choosing Properties, selecting the IMAP tab, and adjusting the "Special folders" section.

You can adjust the junk filtering by clicking the menu button to the left of the Help button, choosing "Safety Options", selecting the Options tab, and selecting "No automatic filtering".  You may also need to connect to your mailbox on the server and seeing if there are any junk filtering options there as well.  Most mail services supply junk filtering independent of the mail client you use.  The Junk E-mail folder (either with that name or the name supplied by the server) will still exist. however.

As to all mail going to Inbox, that should be happening already, with the exception of the junk, and you'll be adjusting that as above.

Any other folders you don't want to see can be handled by logging into the server and deleting them from your mailbox.
