Rearrange taskbar buttons and/or rearrange order of notification area icons. Windows 8.1

I found the following for Windows 8.1,

order of app buttons on the taskbar:

All open files from the same app are always grouped together, even if you didn’t open them one after the other. This is so you can see all of the previews for that app at the same time.

How do I make the last or the latest icon to always open on the right hand side. And that the first app or icon is on the left hand side. Second app or its icon always opens or goes on the right hand side (now second left). And the third app or its icon always opens or goes to the right hand side (now third left). etc.

How do I make any and all apps or their icons to always been displayed in chronological order? First on the left hand side of the notification area and last on the right hand side of the notification area, no matter they are all icons of the same apps or all different ones.

    to continue ...

After spending many many hours on trying different email apps/progs on W8.1 PC,  I am absolutely positive - there is nothing like Outlook Express (for me).

I browse internet on my W8.1 PC and handle emails on my old Windows XP PC. Very inconvenient, but it's still worth it.

Microsoft, pls offer Outlook Express for Windows 8 and 10 for free or sell it. I personally would pay $500 for the speed and convenience.

Windows Live Mail is not an online app if you don't want it to be.  I assume you are meaning that your email actions you take (like moving/deleting an email) are synchronized to the online server. That's IMAP, and it's recommended because it means you have a backup of your mail.  But if you want it to work like Outlook Express and just POP-download your mail and store it locally only, never online again, you can certainly do that exactly as before (in fact the options box for it hasn't changed, the code was kept during the name-change to "Windows Live Mail").

You can read HTML source by right-click and "view source", and it has the ability to shuffle the local storage folders just like MSOE (which was all local folders).

In fact everything you ask for it already does.  I'd be happy to setup a meeting so we can walk through and configure it the way you want it to be.

    Shawn,

I appreciate your time and trying to help!

I do not have technical knowledge and can only tell about my own experience and differences between Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Mail is an online app and therefore every step or action is much, much slower.

Saved drafts disappear or take random time to show up in the draft folder.

Pop-up messages like something failed or did not work due to some connection problems are common (when there were NO  connection problems). And the info or your work is lost if you did not copy it just in case.

It's impossible to easily and quickly edit HTML source code in one or two steps!

Moving emails between folders sometimes does not work or takes a long time - it is in fact, unpredictable.

Outlook Express allowed me to shuffle and rearrange folders and messages separately or absolutely independently from online folders.

Windows Live Mail synchronizes all or most actions, it shuffles and rearranges folders and messages the same way in both Windows Live Mail and in corresponding online folders.

I agree that some ppl would like all these differences or another way of doing things. But some would suffer.

Therefore, my main point is that     killing the star (Outlook Express) has hurt many ppl.

    and

Giving ppl more choices is better than less!

That Windows Mail program is Outlook Express, it just got renamed back in 2004, and again in 2007.  But it's the same core.  Even the DLL files are still MSOE (Microsoft Outlook Express).  Trust me if you want Outlook Express, that's what you want.  Or you can pay for full 'big daddy' Outlook in Microsoft Office, but that might be overkill.

Now I have an Outlook icon on my taskbar.  It never moves, never. --------- perfect example!  It is saying that different ppl like different things.

So the best solution to different ppl is to give them options or choices. NO choices or NO different settings means bad thing to some of them.

Outlook Express .... Go get it from the Windows Essentials page.  ----------- you don't get Outlook Express! There are Outlook.com, Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail.

Neither one is as simple, versatile, user friendly, giving the same number of options and settings as Outlook Express.

Abandoning Outlook Express - the star - was a very bad thing to do. I can not get it from anywhere. I can not buy it neither ...
